I've been there, and know *exactly* how you feel. It seems Oxycontin is the last drug most docs will write for. I had a doc put me on every Schedule II drug known to man between Percocets, Duragesic Patches, MS Contin, Methadone, etc. etc., and one day when I brought up Oxycontin, he stopped me in my tracks and sent me onto the Pain Clinic. It was a nightmare. I went to the Pain Clinic for a year and then determined that place was about "rules" vs. "individual patient care." I know they need rules at a PM Clinic, but I wasn't doing anything wrong and felt like a prisoner (of course, I put that feeling on myself). So when I called and told them I was having bigtime problems with a certain Schedule II, I was simply told, "Keep taking it." That was the last straw.
I then said that I was going to start fresh and go back to the drawing Board with PCP docs. I remembered a doc I had seen for a torn ligament in my ankle a few years before and remembered how caring, compassionate, etc. he was over an ankle?!?! I poured out my history (he spent over an hour with me that day), poured out my tears of pain, told him the 100% truth about my experiences, and have seen him ever since...I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my relationship with him--not ever.
I would however caution you on this. Don't start Oxycontin, unless you absolutely 100% need it.
