I'm reposting this from another place on the forum as I may have put it there instead of here by mistake.
I'm confused by this thread. Oxycodone & Oxycontin are discussed as if they are the same thing. Are they?
I was prescribed 5mg. oxycodone for shingles pain, didn't work that well, but thank God, shingles went away. I'm allergic to tylenol, therefore I was given oxycodone instead of vicodin. Is this the same drug as the notorious Oxycontin? And why is oxycontin so notorious? I'm kind of shocked that I have a script (no refills) for such a famous drug & my MD said nothing to me about it, but then again it's only for 5 mg, 30 tablets.
Obviously I'm not a chronic pain sufferer, my issues are with anxiety & depression. I'm just curious. Of course I'm saving this med in case of any pain emergency.
