Do NOT worry on the pharmacy side!!!! It is nothing unless the pharmacist plays along with it and you walk out of the door with the prescription...But until you PHYSICALLY walk out that pharmacy door with a forged script IN HAND, there can be no charge filed...I know this from exp., I have been, until recently, a major drug chain store manager. We would set up these stings all the time, but the police always told us the customer had to have the prescription in hand when physically crossing that door threshold....
I think this is the most accurate advice you're going to get on the subject considering John's occupation.
I knew of somebody that forged a hard copy prescription for a narcotic and wrote it with refills. After about a week (!) from picking up the original prescription (for #60, I think), he went back to the pharmacy and requested a refill. The pharmacist told him that he thought it was too soon to be filled, but he would call the doctor and just "double-check ."
While my friend was standing there, the pharmacist picked up the phone and called the Dr. #1, it was a Friday night so he probably got the answering service, I don't know, but my friend high-tailed it out of there.
He was, of course, panicked, but nothing ever became of the situation. I think he learned his lesson in part because he never went back to pick it up.
I tend to believe John in that you have to physically walk out the door with the pills to be "busted."
