Benzos DO affect a person who has never taken them before and a person who has been taking them for 20 years differently...It is not just something benzo users say that is analogous to what alcoholics say about alcohol- it is a well-known fact in the medical community.
If a person who has never taken them before (a "normal" person as you said), takes a 2 mg Xanax, s(he) is probably going to pass out and feel a little drunk.
If a person who is tolerant to benzos and has been on 6 mg of Xanax for the past 20 years takes it, nothing's going to happen other than anxiety relief. The sedative effects of benzos wane over time dramatically, yet the anxiety relief remains. Ethanol is not a prescription drug for anxiety- no one NEEDS to use it, unlike benzos.
It is safe for a benzo-tolerant individual to drive on benzos.
Years ago, Valium was the most commonly prescribed drug in America. Are you telling me the doctors had no idea of what it could do, and that they let everyone drive around in a state similar to being drunk?
Come on people, there is some hypocrisy in this thread because I think there are others that drive drunk and/or intoxicated on other stuff who have said something- but don't trot out people with a legitimate need for hydro and benzos that know how it affects them and whose doctors and prescribe it and say it's ok to drive on.
Aside from that, even people who do drive heavily intoxicated and have had multiple DWI's should be posting here, as they have gone further down the road than Yeppers has, and can warn her of what's going to happen.
