But its ok to get behind the wheel of a car after taking a few pain meds right???? This bashing is totally hipocritical! and by the way, I am in no way defending what she has done (as a very ACTIVE mom in MADD) but, why don't we all sit back and take a look at ourselves? wether this is the place to post or not is not important, what is, is that someone is reaching out for help (and she knows she needs it!) and that is what us board members are SUPPOSED to be her for. Anglwink
Anglwink,
I really do feel I have been helping her and offered her advice/support without judging. I've been PM'ing her with guidance and advice as well.
I don't quite understand what the rest of us taking pain meds have to do with this? For people who heavily abuse pain meds and drive on them, they are in a better position to tell Yeppers the horrible path she is on, as they've been there themselves. They likely have several DWI's themselves and know what it's like- don't you think it's therapeutic for someone who has been there and been to jail and lost everything from DWI's/substance abuse to talk to Yeppers?
With alcohol, a couple drinks you may be fine, but more and you can be drunk- much like opioids, you are lumping all people who take opioids into one big group. There is a big range in how we respond to opiates depending on tolerance. Most people can drive on two drinks, and an opioid-tolerant person can drive on their normal dose of hydro.
I myself have driven on opioids for years. Did I ever get into the car when I was not in a state to drive? Nope, I have no DWI's either. I have never driven drunk. I have a tolerance to opioids- I do not get drowsy unless I take dramatically more than I should, and I would never drive if I did that. I am not "intoxicated on them" Just like after one drink I don't fit the criteria for a DWI, after my usual dose of opioids, it is the same thing. My reaction time isn't affected either. Millions of Americans can and do drive just fine on opioids.
There is *QUITE* a difference between being on hydro as an opioid-tolerant individual and being intoxicated on hydro.
I don't see how you can say we are all hypocrites. So your true colors are that no one who has to take opiates should be allowed to drive, no matter how much pain they are in and how much relief opiates given them and allow them to live a productive life as a functioning member of society? This use for opiates is very different than driving drunk, it's a medicine and after time when a tolerance occurs, it is safe to drive on them.
