I give breath tests. when you get a PBT or preliminary breath test by an LE. They must retest you either by blood or by a BAT (dot) certified tester. the person is given the breath test and if it comes out higher then the legal limit the make you sit and are constantly observed for 15 minuets. you are not alowed to eat drink or smoke anything during this 15 min pause. after the pause the person will again blow into the BAT at that point it is confirmed that it is not oral alcahol but blood alchol level.
when we were beimg trained the instructor would take a small sip of rum then blow into the BAT so we could see what + result is on the Breath test machine. The oral level promptly droped to .00 with in few minutes. that is why you are alwys tested twice unless it is blood level.
