wow...I am blown away by this thread.
My family participates in Earth Day by cleaning up a stretch of road where we live. We have no other houses around us, all woods. People chuck their trash out the car windows and make a mess. We pick it up.
Two weeks ago we did our annual cleaning. We picked up three hefty bags of trash. the amount of beer cans and liquor bottles tossed out the windows is appalling. Now, only after two weeks, I have had to go out there and pick up about 5 more beer cans and some little bottles of liqours. Drinking and driving...it makes me VERY angry. The sheer amount of the empty cans and bottles makes me angry. I have a child here. We walk along this road daily. I do not want to have my son killed by some drunk driver.
You had 4 drinks in as little as 2.5 hours and you only weigh 120 lbs. How can you possibly think you were in the right state of mind to get behind the wheel of a car? That's ridiculous, especially with 2 prior DWIs. I won't drink ONE drink and within a few hours get behind the wheel of a car.
You say you crossed the center line due to night blindness. As someone else posted, what are you doing driving at night if you are night blind? And if you are night blind, combining that with 4 drinks in as little as 2.5 hours is totally irresponsible and reprehensible. A blind drunk behind the wheel. How scary for everyone in your path. How scary for you as well.
What bothers me even more about this is your attitude. You said "Will I ever drink and drive again? Probably not" PROBABLY? I think this pretty much sums it all up. You are in denial. You need help, education and/or punishment.
I feel sorry for your children. Did you even think about them before you got in your car and turned on the ignition? Unfortunately those are the people who are going to suffer the most for your actions; this time. Next time it could be the person and the family of the person you slam in to while driving under the influence.
You need to make up your mind that you will NEVER again drink even a drop of alcohol and get in a vehicle and drive. Not "probably won't" but "will never". If you feel the need to consume alcohol, stay at home and drink, have a designated driver or call a cab and pick up your car the next day. It's not that difficult to make arrangements like this. I do it, and I don't have any arrests for DWI's.
You are trying to figure out all these technicalities, which are really just excuses, to get yourself off from these charges. This sounds harsh, but I hope the judge doesn't buy it and you spend some time in jail and lose your license for a very long time. Why? I'm not a sadist. I do not want to see people suffer, even if from their own mistakes. However, after 2 DUIs, you didn't learn. You went out and did it again. I have no doubt, that if you do get off easy, you will do it again, whether it is in 6 months or 6 years. Oh and you took the breathylizer which measures the alcohol in your BODY, (not your mouth)and you failed it. You WERE legally intoxicated. So stop with the excuses of dental work trapping the alcohol and all the other excuses. Like I said-120 lbs, 4 drinks, 2.5 hours, failed breath test=legally impaired.
I want to see all people who drink and drive stay off MY roads. that's right, MY roads. I use them and I pay for them with my taxes. I want to keep my family and friends, myself and every other innocent person who use the roads safe from people who drink and drive.
For those of you who feel that she is being bashed and enough is enough, I disagree, obviously. This person has chosen to drink and drive three times at the very least. Most people who drink and drive don't get caught. So how many times has she done this and gotten away with it? I don't buy that she was unlucky where every time she did this, she happened to get caught. If only it worked that way and every one who decided to do this got caught every single time. There would be no slaughter on our highways from drinking and driving. If only, if only.
Hopefully the third time is a charm with you and you have finally learned a lesson. As others have said, you are so lucky that you have not killed anyone, including yourself.
