When I was 21 I had not yet gotten my licence. One night I was driving because my friend was really smashed. I was pulled over for speeding. The PO smelled alcahol so he gave me a field sobriety test which I passed. I had to be taken in anyway because I had no DL and my friend couldn't drive.
Fast forward 5 years. Had my DL and one too many drinks. I was arrested for DWI. While the judge took my DL for 6 months, the DMV took it for 2 YEARS. I had simply refused the breath test in the previous incident and that "prior refusal" cost me my DL for (and I say again) 2 YEARS! I had to complete the class and then insure my DL..bla bla bla.
The laws are strict and I'm glad they are. I sure learned MY lesson. I'm not tootin' my own horn here. Life gives us lessons. It is our responsablity to learn them.
