My computer is driving me crazy...and I don't have a clue as to what the problem is. I'm hoping someone out there can give me a helping hand...
I think it's important for me to note that until 2 days ago, my computer was fine. It's not like it was already acting up and causing me problems. It wasn't...it really was fine. But then, 2 days ago, I logged on and immediately experienced this problem. It's been this way ever since.
With almost every website I try to visit or link I click on, I get this:
"The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. etc"
OR THIS:
"Action canceled
Internet Explorer was unable to link to the Web page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable. etc"
It happens whether I'm using AOL browser or Internet Explorer.
Okay, I'm familiar with both of these notices. Occasionally, I'll get one of them if my computer needs to be shut down and restarted. But once I do that, everything is fine. Now, it doesn't do any good at all to restart my computer.
What could have happened 2 days ago to cause this? It's really starting to upset me. It's almost impossible to do anything on my computer. Can anyone offer a possible solution?
TIA!

You can try this if you are using AOL. To run the Web browser Auto Fix:
1.Ensure that AOL is open and that you are not connected to the America Online service.
2.On the AOL toolbar, click Help, then click AOL Help.
3.Click the Index tab. This is the tab with a gold key.
4.In the box in the upper left, type FIX, then hit Enter on your keyboard. Fixes for common AOL error conditions will appear.
5.On the right side, click the AOL Web browser, then follow the on-screen instructions.
The suggested Auto Fix will do the following:
Delete the temporary Internet files (i.e., clear your browser cache)
Uninstall the AOL adapter
Repair the AOL Web browser
Reinstall Dial-up Networking
Hopefully this will help.

it sounds to me your internet is down. what internet service provider do you use? you might want to give them a call and see if it's on their end.

A few things:
If you are using high spped, you need to go into network connections and make sure your connections are all good.
Your machine is telling itself that there is no connection to the internet available, thus the messages.
If you have windows XP, use the restore function to go back to a date before you had this problem, say a week earlier. While you will not lose any files, any programs you loaded will be lost and you will need to reinstall them. Again, these are only prgrams you installed within the last week.
Good Luck,

Well, I don't have high speed or Windows XP and there wasn't a problem with AOL being down...I could connect okay and still access some sites. So I decided to follow Stephdar's advice and run AOL's web browser auto fix....
It appears to have solved the problem. I've been surfing for an hour or so since I ran it, and so far, I've been able to access all websites without getting either of those messages. And as an added bonus, everything seems to run smoother and faster.
I didn't even know the web browser auto fix existed. Thanks for the info, Stephdar!

Looks like I spoke too soon...
After a couple of hours of trouble-free browsing, those irritating messages are back and I'm having problems accessing websites.
This is so frustrating...!

Imago,
This may repair your browser.
Click START,SETTINGS,CONTROL PANEL.
Open Control Panel and click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
Click INTERNET EXPLORER then REMOVE(it wont remove IE)
You will see options-click on REPAIR
Reboot after it repairs IE.
Hope this helps,
J.
