Everyone, this is not bogus. A person on another board is getting the calls too. The guy is not a PI. He is part of the Attorney Generals office in FL. This is very real.
This person is scared to death. They want her to come to FL to testify. They said they would pay airfare. They have called her about 6-7 times now.

They would have to write me. I never answer the phone (due to 100 telemarketer calls per day). Lol!

Those who know don't tell;
Those who tell don't know.
I think its a good idea to keep your mouth shut. You have no obligation to tell them anything. Also-if they want info they should pay for it. Make them an offer they can't refuse.

I was thinking maybe "make an offer they can refuse."
Only respond to a subpeona-if the MIB can find you to serve it.

I no longer post or pm. Those who talk to me, use email. Much safer that way.

tell her to tell them she has a headache, anxiety about flying, and is allergic to sunshine and federal agents. or maybe she could politely ask them to stop calling her.

If it was for real, they'd be contacting customers in Florida. Florida can subpeona a witness to appear from anywhere in their own state ... but they cannot compel someone to travel from another state to be a witness.
If it was a federal case, then if they wanted the witness badly enough and a federal judge approved it, they could send out the FBI or the U.S. Marshal's Service to pick the person up as a material witness and transport them to wherever. Scary, huh?
Another thing ... even if they did compel someone to appear, the witness should demand immunity from prosecution ... and if it's not offered they can take the Fifth Amendment and decline to testify for fear of self-incrimination.

I read this whole thread and I don't think anyone mentioned this, if you want to find out who the caller is you can do so (if the number is listed) without calling them by using a reverse directory - here's a link to one. Good luck.

Trampy, I believe that she did get these calls. She is not one to lie about this issue and she is posting about this on a very small private board.
I will tell her what you said about taking the 5th, etc...

LOL...LE and investigators don't call to make appointments or ask for opinions, etc... If they want to talk to you, they will come TO you. End of story. This could've been a member of the media as well. They tend to lie to get a story ;-)

Trampy, unfortunately you are wrong. Look up the FL statutes. http://www.flsenate.gov/statutes/index.cfm
They CAN compel you to testify if the state the witness is in has extradition laws. You cannot refuse to testify or you will be in contempt. They can't however, charge you with any crime resulting from your testimony unless you perjure yourself.
Scary stuff though.

Not when the caller ID shows FL Atty Generals Office.
I know this is making people uncomfortable and they do not want to hear it. It's easier to blow it off then it is to realize it is happening. Believe me folks, this person is NOT lying. This is very real. The people she spoke to are from the Attorney General's Office in FL. They can compel her to testify if her state has extradition statutes.
It sucks, but it is happening. Whethere people want to believe it or not.
I for one, am happy I go the legal route. US OPs with med records. And that's the only way I will get the meds I need. If the day comes when US consult places become illegal, I'll have to suffer I guess. but I am not going to be caught up in a mess like this. It's downright scary.

Summer, your not alone. I have gotten two certified letters (i never picked up) one from Consumer Affairs, one from the California Med Board. I also just received a phone call on my recorder from a man saying he was a investigator for the Ca.Med.Board. I believe this was about a Doctor i used years ago, but am kinda freaked out about all this, and dont know what to do. Any advice, suggestions greatly appreciated.

Kansas can't pass a law that contradicts a federal mandate....and HIPAA guarantee's your privacy rights....whether in Kansas, Texas or Montana...
But when law enforcement subpoena's the info...the medical provider must comply....

I'd simply ask the medical board which doctor....I mean, if it's a doc their trying to nail, who treated you appropriately, you could do this guy a huge favor & testify FOR him....too many good docs are going down because no one will stand up for them... If it's the Ca Medical Board... you have nothing to worry about...they have zilch in terms of jurisdiction over patient's....

There is not enough information in this entire thread to come to any reasonable conclusion. Trampy usually does the research and has a good handle on this kind of stuff. Everything else posted seems pretty speculative. If you're not a lawyer knowledgeable about this area of the law, it's probably better to minmize spreading unsubstantiated opinions and rasing paranoia levels.
