Florida can subpeona a witness to appear from anywhere in their own state ... but they cannot compel someone to travel from another state to be a witness. If it was a federal case, then if they wanted the witness badly enough and a federal judge approved it, they could send out the FBI or the U.S. Marshal's Service to pick the person up as a material witness and transport them to wherever. Scary, huh? Another thing ... even if they did compel someone to appear, the witness should demand immunity from prosecution ... and if it's not offered they can take the Fifth Amendment and decline to testify for fear of self-incrimination.
