Just curious. If youre in severe pain and have built somewhat of a tolerance to the opiates whether it is Ultram/Hydro, what has been the most mg's you have taken at once? I know it says on many books/inserts that no more than 80mg a day is standard dosage, but just curious if I take more than my recommended "10mg every 4 hours" would be a huge dosage if I toke 2. I had a friend tell me once that his tolerance was to the point that he had to take 60mg of hydro (6 10mg pills) at once to get any relief and it never hurt him. Of course, at that point, his PM doctor changed his meds to a Sch 2. But, wanted to get some input from the group if anyone has every taken that much at once...

I'm not sure if this answers your question, but medical reports suggest that you should not exceed 8 500s% dosage) in one day, 6 750s, and I think around the same for norco 10/325s. I think it also depends on your diet somewhat too, I have stayed within the limit and still puked because I hadn't eaten much that day.

There is no answer for that as it is all about tollerances. If you look at many schedule II meds it clearly states they are only for opioid tollerant folks. What may not phase someone on the heavy hitting meds may shut down the breathing of another. For example fentenal lollipops (Atiq). A common dosage is 600mcg taken over 15 minutes. A very small person who has been on Oxy may not even feel. Someone else who weighs twice as much but with no pain killer experience may have decreased breathing or worse from this med.
As far as the maximum 24hr dosage, I believe that has more to do with the tylenol in it. (8) 10/500's in 24 hours, puts you at 4 grams of tylenol in 24 hours which is the recommended max dosage.

There is no such thing as a maximum dosage when you start talking about tolerances. There are reliable case studies in medical textbooks of people who have regularly taken more than 1 gram of morphine daily. So, depending on your tolerance, you could take huge amounts of hydro that would be life-threatening to an opiate-naive individual (of course, if what you're using has apap in it, then that's something to watch out for). Codeine is a different story, as it for some reason seems to max out (I think it's 400-500 mg, which would give you a huge histamine reaction anyway), Demerol (I don't remember the numbers, but the limiting factor are the seizures that come with a high dose), Darvocet (toxicity without realizing it), and a few others that I can't recall.

The leaflet enclosed in a sealed bottle of Norco's states that 10 grams of tylenol is the overdose mark. It all depends on yer tolerance, stomach contents and such. If yer looking for more bang for yer buck I suggest drinking a nice tall glass of tonic water which contains Quinine(if that's the correct spelling). It's basically a potentiator, and it DOES work, just dont be putting gin in there, good luck......

I agree with everybody here who has pointed out that the actual danger (in an opiate-tolerant individual) comes from the excess tylenol, not the the hydro.
Unfortunately, many many people don't have access to local pain managenent doctors and *must* get by on hydrocodone. There are a couple of OPs out their that will prescribe specially compounded hydro/APAP in a ratios like 15/80. Unfortunately, they are very few and they are VERY expensive. There are also methods of seperating the tylenol from the hydrom which I will not discuss here, since I belive it's against the rules. I'll just say (admit?) that I *have* taken 100mg at a time, both with and without tylenol. With my tolerance, it might take the edge off the pain. On a good day. I should be on duragesic, but haven't been able to afford it.
NO, though. Taking 2 hydros at once will almost certainly not hurt you. If you follow the science behind pain management, you will learn that if a patient is already IN pain (i.e., dosage has worn off), it usually takes 130-200% of the normal analgesic dosage to start back on schedule. From there you should take it as prescribed, though.
