Well, IT is different for every pharmacy. Most local pharmacies have a 30 day refill policy. (CVS, Wallgreens, Eckerds) If you were getting it online, it could range from 20-25 day refill policies. My advice would be to call the pharmacy and ask them this question because i think laws are different in each State. Hope this helps.

I beleive the 25 day situation for OP's is allowed because of shipping time - you know to allow an extra few days for them to get to you so you don't run out. My experience with brick and mortar is 30 days. Cash or insurance. However, some mom and pops won't be as strict on it as a chain store. I think it's kind of up to them and since you are a cash customer that may be okay as long as it's not way, way early.

if it is a maintance med most ins companies will allow refills when between 75 and 85 % of the med is used. if it is a prn med ie 1 or 2 every what ever hours most regular phams will allow it after 75% of the scrpit time frame is used

My experience has been that it depends on the pharmacist. I have had different pharmacists at the same Phamacy say it is too early and others not say a word as early as 25 days. This is for Schedule II. I also had one pharmacy deny for being too early at 24 days and then went to a differnt pharmacy, same pharmacy different location and not have a problem. Some make a big deal out of it and some don't.
I also have had them ask why I need it early and if I say I am going away they usually fill it up to a week early. It's a mystery! lol

I had a prescription for ambien at a local grocery store pharmacy and was going to be out of town for a couple of weeks. I tried to refill early but could not. I think ambien is schedule 3 or 4 but the reason I couldn't is b/c of my insurance. That seemed to be the only reason.
The pharmacist said, "hang on let me see (if you can get a refill). Sorry you can only get a refill every 23 days under your insurance."
Also, I could have transferred the script but since it was a scheduled med, I could only transfer it once. So I would of had to go out of town again to get the remaining refills b/c I wouldnt of been able to transfer it back, but the dr. would have to write a new script if i couldnt go get the script. Didnt want to risk that since my dr. gave me 6 refills for ambien.
