I just got a script for 800 mg Skelaxin. I take clonopin also, what can I expect? I'm guessing extreme drowsiness, but I am worried about sexual side effects. Any help on this new med for me would be great.

I've taken Skelaxin. There are lots of side effects according to the literature that comes with the med. However, I experienced none. It did not make me drowsy but it did help my muscle spasms. I'd be more concerned about klonopin as far as drowsiness and sexual side effects. Then again everyones body is different, so it's hard to say. I was on Skelaxin for 3 months 3 X day. It worked much better for me than flexeril or soma but again, everyones physiology is different.
PM me if you want more info. I still have the literature that came with it somewhere.
Take care,

I have taken that worthless med before. It does nothing for me. It is like a placebo. I don't think it will affect you sexually.

i ws prescribed those a couple of months ago
after a car wreck
i think the prescribed dosage was one every 4 hours
i ended up taking 2 or 3 every 2 hours
and still the effects were barely noticeable
not for the spasms or any drowsiness
i went back and asked for soma

I was prescribed Skelaxin a few months ago, and it did help with the muscle spasms. I had to take it every 3-4 hours. Also it didn't make me sleepy at all. But when you read the insert the pharmacy gives you, it lists a-lot of side effects; of which I had none.
Don't know anything about the other med.

When the dr. gave me Skelaxin instead of Soma, I talked to the pharmacist about it, and he said "in the trade" Skelaxin is called a "trash" drug. Like a placebo.
I took it and nothing happened. I prefer Soma. As to Klonopin I have taken one at night for sleep for a couple of years, and there is no problem at all. Not for me. But remember, everyone is different....you just have to try and see how it works for you.

I wonder why skelaxin still is so expensive? I know the patent is still on it, but for so many years?
I have taken skelaxin with decent results. It doesn't make me sleepy, and the muscle spasms seem to relent a little more without the side effects of other muscle relaxers.
Heck there are side effects from foods!!

I was prescribed Skelaxin for Degenerative Disc Disease and back spasms. It was an absolute joke. Didn't even come close to touching the pain. Soma works best on my muscle spasms, but makes me quite drowsy. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Another medication floating around that is probably not very effective yet the drug rep gives the doctor some type of kickback to push it.

Skelaxin is insanely expensive given how many times you have to take it, and given that Soma is just as good without the side effects. It is definitely a drug rep/kickback/free trip for the doc prescribing it kind of thing.
Oh and by the way, when I asked my FORMER orthopaedic doctor if I could try some, he gave me a script for 15 and flagged my file. I fired him after months of frustration with both him and his PA standing there...literally FIRED them, like a boss does.

As the original poster of this thread.........I have to say this is the most worthless drug I have ever taken. It made me sick and didn't help me sleep. I was prescribed it by my PM&R doctor........he is a arrogant SOB and with the price of this medication I have to say there is definantly some kick back to every doc who prescribes it. Tommorrow I will call my family doctor and get something worth while.

I take skelaxin occassionally. My doc prescribed it because I was having excruciating headaches that were a result of a very traumatic experience. Headaches were so bad my temple area and the bones at the base of skull were painful to the touch. She rx'd me 800mg to take 1 at bedtime. It took a few days to kick in, but once my muscles started loosening up, headaches stopped. She's also prescribed for me since I have been experiencing repetitive bouts of sinus infections that cause the same type of headaches with pain in the same areas. However, skelaxin does NOT do anything to relieve the pain while it is there. It only takes care of the cause of the pain. I still needed to take pain killers until the skelaxin kicked in and relieved the muscle tension.

I like skelaxin because it DOESN'T make me sleepy, but does help reduce the muscle spasms. This falls under everBODY is different.
I also take opiates for pain control, but those don't always address the muscle spasming(you know what I mean) and soma is not allowed on my med regime.

Skelaxin was beyond worthless for me. Doc gave me a bunch of free samples, but it was like taking a placebo. Flexeril is the best med I've found and now that I take it 2-3 times a day, it doesn't turn me into a zombie anymore. Soma works okay, but doesn't stop the spasms that are generating much of the pain for me in the first place.
