Suspicious acting FedEx driver
      #176365 - 07/27/04 06:17 PM

Today I was scheduled to get a small 2nd day package via FedEx. I was outside doing a bit of yard work when he pulled up. As I walked over to him he told me he had a package for ... (me) and he was looking at me in a rather odd manner, not friendly, pleasantly or even blankly. He had that *State Trooper looking to bust you for something after he pulled you over for a broken tail light* look.

The package WAS from a pharmacy but I didn't think it said *pharmacy* that on the package (it doesn't). It was urine test strips, for the CAT no less, from a place that doesn't even fill out of state scripts or any scheduled scripts. I know this sounds paranoid but I would SWEAR that the FedEx guy knew it was from a pharmacy. Like the pickup guy made some note somewhere that it was a pharmacy or somthing. I truly felt like this guy KNEW I was getting dome hydro or something. I wanted to yell after him "It's test strips for the cat!"

Has anyone else been made to felt really uncomfortable by the FedEx or UPS driver when there truly was no cause for it? Is this a new trend? My UPS dude is great, really friendly and thoughtful (and handsome) and the old FedEx driver was great too (not as handsome...). I actually will avoid getting FedEx packages when possible until this guy is gone.

Eee

p.s. If you want to tell me I AM being paranoid I won't take offence, I know that's how this sounds but you weren't here...

I had a fedex guy once, after I had signed for the package, shake it, yes he shook it rapidly up and down, and then set on the ground next to the door, they usually hand it to me, and then turn and walk away. I thought it was very strange.

I am wondering if they code the labels in any way. One delivery I had, the FedEx guy acted strange. What i ordered should not have been a sign for package, so I said that when he handed me the clip board. He said "you have to sign. It's medication" I said to him "well, it shouldn't be a big deal on this one" He looked at me strangely and walked away without saying another word. I looked on the package and it did not say anything about a pharmacy for the return address.
Any FedEx employees on here that can enlighten us about the delivery guys and how odd they can act about this?

I know I read on here somewhere where someone had received two packages and she was only expecting one so the UPS driver (I believe) called it in and they told her what was in each package!! I know they know it's from a pharm but how much more do they know and why.

Two months ago, ups came and had two packages. I was only expecting one and I had the money order for it. It was his last delivery, so he followed my husband up to the 7-11, it's real close, and waited for him to get the other money order. When my husband came out he asked who do I make it out to and the driver said rxhotdeals.
like I said in a previous post they know!

YES BUEY! He had the paper clipboard! Don't they usually use that fancy electronic thing? Once I realized that, it made me even MORE uneasy.

My good old USPS guy is really odd, kinda creepy and I never have a clue what he is thinking about when I get all sorts of weird packages (all different things) but at least he minds his own business and sticks to his job, you know, delivering the mail.

I know it's been posted how to get packages held at a hub. Can someone spell it out for me again. It's close enough not to be really inconvenient and I don't want to be *judged* by that jerk when I am get legal nonprescription veterinary stuff!

I have shipments sent to the Fedex hub. I have the shipping address listed as the address of the hub. Then I receive a call from Fedex when it is available for pickup. I've done this the last 3 months without any problems.

My understanding from Fedex is, if the package is addressed to your home (or whatever location) they have to make at least one delivery attempt before they will hold it at the hub.

Don't know how UPS works. Some folks use Mail Boxes Etc for deliveries. Again, no first hand experience doing this. However, it is an actual address, not a PO Box, and UPS/Fedex apparently do deliver to those locations.

Saw an interesting article about a Pub in England that accepts packages for anyone in the village. It has increased the number of people coming in and having a pint or two when they pick up their packages. I think it's called a win/win situation.

Good luck,

Sam

Back in the days, I had blister packs literally falling out of a taped-up IOP package at the post office, that had been opened by the FDA and passed on to the main post office. No problems. They knew exactly what was in there.

While I do think some of us worry needlessly, I just had to throw in my experience last month also. I was expecting a delivery from UPS (a refill from my OP) sitting out on my balcony waiting and up pulls UPS. While I can see down really well, it's difficult for anyone below to see up through the screen. As he got out with the package in hand, I actually saw him shake the package up and down! I thought about this for quite awhile after he left and decided that I really should have said something to him about it, but cowardly me didn't want to peese him off, so needless to say, I kept quiet. I'm just wondering if any of you would have said something? I mean, it 'could' have been something that shouldn't have been shaken for all he knew.

For years now we have gotten small pkgs from ups & fedex with a variety of stuff, including meds for me & my cat. It wasn't until I got involved in OP forums & read these postings that it occured to me to be paranoid about the fedex & ups guys. So far mine have behaved normally.

My elderly neighbors are always searching for good drug deals for their heart meds & order online too. Their packages come from places in canada with odd names like rxhotdeals too.

I think that some of us are correct that these guys are being jerks, I'll bet there is talk in the shipping industry about OP's & so the jerks are bored & want to rattle people & our packages!

But I also think that some of us tend to be paranoid, for good reason of course, so when the driver comes, just smile & sign & forget about him or her. Your own fear might be showing & that could be why a bored sadistic type driver deliberately tries to push your buttons.

My UPS guy is a really nice guy, baked him a batch of cookies the other day when my rxgooddeals package came. He was telling me that a lot of people in my area orders their meds online and how he's been getting a lot of SPAM from pharmacies but he hasn't checked any of them out yet because he doesn't know if they are bogus or not. He even filled out my money order for me and went on his happy way. Then again I'm also always signing for packages when others in my building aren't home making his job easier so I don't think I have anything to worry about with him. My mailman is a whole 'nother story and I'm gonna start a thread about him.

Well I'm not being paranoid I know. My Fedex lady used to be very friendly until several months ago. Now she brings my package and says "here are your medicines".

How does she know that? I guess she shook the package. I too (coward that I am) just smiled and said thank you.

I know that what I get is legal and yet I still get a case of the nerves every time she delivers my package.

I wish people would tend to their own business and leave others to theirs.

Plus, since I live in a small town it is always the same driver and people talk.

Oh well, perhaps some of the OPs will start using DHL or some other carrier. I could always hope.

I also have my Fedex packages held at the hub. (The hub is right around the corner from my work) I just put their address as the shipping address and add the comments- Hold at the hub for customer pickup. They know me there now, when I walk in they go get my package without even asking my name. Once on a Saturday, I had the package addressed to come to my house, and they held it anyway. When I went to get it, they said- oh, the driver thought it was a mistake, because you always have your packages held at the hub. I said I didn't this time because it was Saturday. She said Okay I'll make sure not to hold it on a Saturday for you.
They are all very nice. UPS is a different story.. I don't like them very much.

My stepfather has been receiving his meds via FedEx for years now. Long story, short, he's got an active lawsuit with his former employer for a permanent injury sustained on the job. The way his Comp claim was set up years ago was that he has to see the doctor at least once a month, he prescribes the meds, then they're shipped right to our door. He's basically being guinea pigged, though, because his doctor changes his meds every so many months to whatever the pharmaceutical companies are pushing at the time, but our FedEx driver is so used to packages from pharmacies being sent here, she barely even gives it a second glance when she hands the packages over. This works greatly in my favor, as you can all imagine. She even carries dog treats with her to give to our dog when she comes...lol.

UPS, on the other hand, I don't trust one bit. I've known people who worked for them and they've all known people who outright admitted that they've gone through packages from pharmacies and taken people's meds. That's pretty sick, if you ask me, and I try to avoid UPS like the plague. I think that's about my only beef with RxGoodDeals...they really should switch to FedEx.

eah, when filling out your shipping address on the op site, simply fill in the fedex or ups address,(you'll have to get that from their site), next to the address, type "hold for pickup." simple as that.

Thanks David, Debbie, Sam re: the how to get them to hold at hub.

Upon reflection, the guy just looked like a jerk who might be into intimidating people for sport when he somehow knows it's from a pharmacy. I still want nothing to do with him ever again and will use the hub for now. In a lot of ways it's easier to just go there and get something anyways instead of having some rude guy show up any old time he wants.

I suppose it is human nature to be curious about what is in some of the packages. I don't condone it but the drivers must get familiar with the folks on their route and maybe it's not so shocking that they try to get to know us thru what we have delivered. I still wish they would mind their own business though.

*LOL* My UPS guy is so cute, I had a Victoria's secret delivery yesterday and he was telling me how AMAZING and DELICIOUS the cookies were with this little puppy dog look on his face and I had baked some banana chocolate chip bread the day before so I told him to hold on I have something for you and his eyes lit up and he said, "I feel so guilty but I was hinting and hoping you had baked some goodies and I could have some" in this little boy's voice.

I'm gonna make sure to bake some lemon squares on my next order for anything that comes via UPS.

NYChick, you have truly inspired me. I can set my watch by the UPS guy... He's WAY too young for me but that doesn't mean I can't offer him an iced tea... An yes, baked goods really are the way to go. Lemon squares will be perfect for these summer months. Now I must find something I need to order which will come by UPS

Eee

p.s. I suppose a poll of which delivery company has the better looking drivers would be out of the question.

My UPS guy is truly a hottie and if I was not happily married to a man who is the epitome of tall, dark and handsome (Think a cross between Brendan Fraser and John Cusack) I'd be offering him more than iced tea and cookies.

Just Kidding, but now I can't get that cheesy porno music out of my head. *LOL*

As a RULE, pkgs that "rattle" MAY contain broken pieces, so THAT'S the reason for a whole lotta shakin' goin' on (sorry, Jerry Lee). They usually won't leave a knowingly broken pkg for you, PLUS they don't load their own trucks, so the 1st time MANY of the drivers have seen the pkg is when they pick it up outta the van to bring it to you, so don't fret, it's OK.

I don't get paranoid about these guys.

Just had a UPS COD.
It was getting late so I called UPS and it turned out that the dumb arse shipper had left off my STREET in the address.

So I definately was NOT expecting him to show up.

But he did, and being a friendly guy I asked about it; they had looked up my street (Should I be surprised? I mean that's not rocket science), and I thanked him.

Then he mentioned the $ amount for the COD, and said ( with a quick shake ) "Meds? That's expensive!"
I said (being older than he) "Just don't get old, ha ha" and we exchanged a few more banalities - and told each other to have a nice day I would say he is a friendly guy.

What did he really think? What does he know? Will the black/silent helicopters be hovering overhead?

I don't worry about it. They're doing their job, and I'm sure many know what's what. And hey, the shipping companies certainly profit from it.

We've had the same UPS guy for years and I've known him casually for a long time. He works from a city an hour away. Awhile back, after him being so nice about my deliveries, even to the point of finding me around town when I wasn't home, I was expecting a delivery and bought him a nice box of expensive fudge and a pretty candle, had it put in a nice gift bag, etc. When he came for the delivery, I handed it to him as a gesture of my gratitude. He responded "What ya got for me, some good drugs?" I was quite taken aback!!! I played it off as "Oh, you wouldn't want to have to take the vile meds I am on since my surgery", and left it at that. Still, it stayed on my mind for a couple days. It made me very umcomfortable. I've seen him since, he always inquires as to my health/recovery, so I choose to think he was just making small talk/joking around (though not in good taste). A friend suggested I contact his supervisor, but I figure, why rock the boat and just bring more attention to myself? His fill-in, when he was on vacation, told me that he makes tons of med deliveries these days. Seeemed to think nothing of it.

However, as badly as I hate to admit this, I still have a feeling of dread when I know the regular UPS guy is coming, after that comment. I have even been cowardly enough to simply leave the envelope with money order sealed and on the door with a note inside containing my signature, and make myself busy away from the house.

I probably made a mountain out of a molehill, but that comment really got to me.

We have since moved, only a few blocks, and he was here one day during the move, came inside to see the house with my husband and I, and we told him that once we get settled we would like to have him join us for lunch break. He graciously accepted. That comment probably meant nothing and was forgotten by the time he got back into the truck. I do tend to be a paranoid type person, and have chosen to give him the benefit of the doubt.

What a nice person you are Lost Shopper for giving your UPS guy such a nice gift. I am sure he didn`t meant anything by his comment and would not worry about it. These UPS people have to put up with alot of situations, like mine just did when my dogs got out and were barking at him, he was super nice about it, but I could tell he was a little scared to turn his back on them even though I told him they don`t bite, just bark there little terrier heads off

Anyway take care..I just wanted to say how nice it was of you to give your UPS guy a gift. I bet he wishes more people were that nice

P.S. The package I got this morning was double wrapped so there was no noise, but if it did rattle I was going to say..Hey great the beads I ordered finally got here

as big as op's are getting these drivers know the amounts of meds they are delivering, my last order my ups guy was at my door, i said hi, he said " hi, heres all your medications" part of me gets mad, as i feel its none of thier business if we are getting our meds sent to us, but he has been my driver a long time and i know he didnt mean anything by it, i think we will need to get used to this, i dont think filing any type of complaint will help your cause, but cause more probs, i wouldnt worry if a driver makes a comment, unless they are acting out of line

LostShopper I can understand why you feel awkward after the comment the ups guy made. But you know what, I wouldn't sweat it. IMSUSCOT1 gives great advice. Also the ups guy knows he's delivering meds but he has no clue as to what they are. It could be prevacid, propecia, who knows? Anyways it's none of his business. Nobody should feel guilty or awkward just because they receive meds via online. Don't give the ups guy (or anyone else) the ability to control how you feel. You've done nothing wrong. Personally I would have taken the fudge back and told him to take a long walk on a short pier.... Not really but it would be tempting. Once again, I wouldn't sweat it.

I have all my fed ex and UPS deliveries sent to my coffee shop because that is where i am almost all day. I also have all my supplies sent through these two companies so i see both my drivers on an almost daily basis. I even have my UPS driver's cell number and if i am going to be out running errands, he will meet me somewhere. ( he is a total hottie) and he never gives you your package without you first giving him a hug and or a kiss Needless to say he is very well known and loved in my small town LOL he has had this route for over 20 years. I feed him lunch once a week and i get golden treatment. I also always offer my fed ex driver a cold soda when he delivers. It gets pretty hot down here. So he too is great!! The other day, the UPS guy was having lunch and the Fedex guy showed up with a delivery. They both ended up in my kitchen swapping stories. You would not believe what people mail My UPS guy said that they do not know what is in every package because there is no way that millions of pacakges could be scanned and checked daily.

Yea, storm, I opted to ultimately let it go and forget about it. He's always been great, will even find me no matter where I may be in town, rather than just leave a notice and come back the next day. He also is aware of the serious surgery I'd had, so you are right, for all he knew it could have been anything. What bothered me at the time was the particular wording he used. However, despite advice I got to the contrary, I wouldn't have made an issue by reporting him. That would be counter-productive for ME, unless he had really, really stepped way over the line. I think it was his way of joking around, not having a clue that it would hit a nerve.

And, yes, I do like to reward UPS/Fedex. They normally do a h*** of a job, at least here.

I still prefer Fedex, but seems any and everything I order, meds or not, uses UPS.
