fedex thefts
      #142204 - 02/26/04 05:47 PM

Apparently theft at Fedex is becoming such a problem that one of the "better" record requiring ops has now resorted to changing the name on the return address to deter theft. Instead of the pharmacy name and address, the label now comes from a hardware specialty store "Screws and Bolts" (or something like that). This name explains the small package and the shaking.

Things are getting really bad when they have to do something like this. I certainly hope that Fedex is looking into this.

BTW - I'm somewhat surprised because I've read about alot of problems with UPS, but little with fedex. Interesting...

Fedex and UPS have always had problems with theft. It just depends on what the particular items the thieves are looking for. I know at UPS jewelry,Video games, CD's and clothing like Nike etc were popular items. When Beanie Babies were big, they too were hot items. Even though employees are scanned going into work and coming out, they would still get away with it from time to time. Many times the guards were in on it.

I agree. Someone I know works at a sorting facility 3rd shift and he tells me that they steal anything they want from packages. He also told me that when they have a bulk of products (especially if they are large and heavy) the guys will purposely break items to send them back as to not have to sort and deliver them. I'm sure this is not the norm, but it is still disturbing.

I always kinda wondered about this subject. Are sorters and ramp workers monitored by cameras?

You'd think in this day and age they would be under constant surveillance, but if this is really happening then clearly they are not. They should be careful though. I remember years ago when the Chicago area USPS had serious theft problems they all got caught on secret video tape and prosecuted. I can't fathom that Fedex wouldn't know about such a widespread problem and allow it to continue.

My oldest son and several of his best buddies work for UPS as loaders. I assure you, they take great pride in accomplishing their work efficiently and honestly. You will find rotten people here and there in every area of life; however, realize that there are standards set and management to oversee what goes on. They are monitored, but more importantly, find themselves full of pride for a job well done. They don't need to be forced to do a good job. Again, there are exceptions to every rule, but I want people to understand it isn't common practice for these places or their employees to be dishonest. You can bet your bottom dollar that those stealing from Fedex or UPS, if that is the case and it has been reported, will be brought to justice.

Signed by a proud Mom on the west coast.

You go Mama!!

I just noticed that this is my 100th post!!!

I just wanted to add my penny's worth.....when I first began using OP's I received an order from a pharmacy in Alabama and it had "jellybeans" listed as the sender. How clever is that? I wish I could remember the name of that pharmacy. They're no longer around. They did compound meds. Does it ring a bell to anyone?

I have the most utmost respect for both my UPS and Fed-Ex guys and give them gifts throughout the year.

I can tell you that stealing is a common occurrance whether people want to belive it or not. Yes, the good certainly outweigh the bad but the bad exist and they steal.

In all fairness, I've been told by a shipping manager that many thefts are contract employees but still the company gets the bad rap.

This doesn;t surprise me one bit. My company recently switched from UPSG to FDXG and our "lost" shipments have sky-rocketed - let alone these are big ticket items we are shipping as well. FDX is horrible.
