Tordol (Ketorolac) a non-opioid analgesic. A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory used for short term management of pain, not to exceed 5 days total for all routes. Mostly metabolized by the kidneys 92% and by the liver 50%.Should not be used with asprin or other n-saids. Ultram (Tramadol) is a centrally acting analgesic. It binds to mu-opiod receptors. Mostly metabolized by the liver and small amount by the kidneys. Dosage starting at 25mg or 50mg slowly increasing up to 50-100mg every 4-6 hours not to exceed 800mg per 24hr period. Onset is 1 hour, peak is 2-3 hour, and duration is 4-6 hours.Ultram is not recommended in patients who are dependent on opioids. It can be addictive with withdrawal properties, do not stop abruptly. It does break down in the urine to show morphine like properties. It can be abused and cause overdose and respiratory depression like opiates. Hope this helps, take care.
