My DR told me that percoset tends to be more effective on "organ" type pain, IE... post op pain, burns, etc, where-as hydro is supposedly more effective for muscular skeletal pain, fractures, spasms, joints.

personally, I think it's more about what happens to work for the individual. I know if I'm having a serious flare-up in pain (above the normal everyday chronic pain) the percs seem to attack the acute pain and give me longer lasting relief.
