Gage- I am here to tell everyone that you are ABSOLUTELY correct!!! I got arrested for the first time in my life recently for not showing up to be sued by a credit card company that I owed money to. If I would've declared bankruptcy instead of trying to resolve my debts honestly, I never would have gotten in that legal trouble. Because I have no money, I foolishly thought there was no point in showing up to court to be sued.
The point is: THE COUNTY JAIL HERE WAS ABSOLUTE HELL! I cannot begin to describe how dehumanizing and dangerous it was. Some gang banger decided I was "dissin'" her & threatened to break my glasses at one point. You can only make collect calls from jail that announce you are in incarcerated inmate so I missed 2 days of work without being able to call in! They must have thought I'd died or something. I am the type of person who normally calls in to work if I'm going to be only a couple of minutes late. The WORST part was I that I live alone & I had to get ahold of someone to get into my locked apartment to take care of my animals. At one point, I went into hysterics (and I am not the crying type) because I was afraid my animals would die & I had no way to know when I'd get in front of a judge. I had heard stories of people being incarcerated for a week before seeing a judge. BTW-when I finally did see a judge after almost 2 days of hell, it was very anticlimactic. The judge just had me talk for a few minutes to the lawyer representing the cc company & said it was a civil not criminal matter (duh). I was let go later that day. What a horror show that was.
When I went into hysterics, I had crack whores feeling sorry for me & using their phone calls to try to get through to someone to take care of my animals.
I am frankly still quite traumatized my it all. Talk about a BS legal system!
Yep, I was treated just like the woman down the hall in jail who had murdered all her children. Cherish your freedon folks!
