Man, your post could have been written by me. Exact same situation 12 yearrs ago. Compound (open) spiral tib/fib fx,(6 different complete breaks)hip cast 9 months followed with knee cast for another 3. Was in a dang cast for an entire year when ortho-surgery would have had me back on my feet AND working within 6-8 weeks. Couldn't drive a car and I was the bread-winner for the family.
In Colorado,(yes,I actually broke my leg skiing in Vail)it is considered Patient Abandonment when the Ortho has you on pain meds for an extended period of time,discontinues meds abruptly without support and leaves you in withdrawal.
Not sure about other States,but Colorado appears to protect patient rights far better than the State I now live in.
If this has been within the last 2 years, Statue of Limitations may be different for your State,check with an Attorney.
