What kind of info were you looking for? Try a general search on google, I do know that they are over the counter, contain some sort of stimulant to open the airways, and they can become addictive somehow. I have no idea why someone would want to become addictive to this, it is beyond me.

The addiction is not a psycological addiction but purely physical. What happens is your sinus cavity shrinks during the first 72 hours of use. During that time the sinus is swollen due to infection or other causes.
If you use it beyond the three day limit, your sinus' get's "addicted" in the sense that they will rebound or swell when the medicine wears off, not because of the infection that may have since passed. You then redose to stop that inflammation which inturn reinforces the cycle. It really is an easy addiction to get, in fact I'd guess it would happen more quickly then most other meds. So do not reach for it after the third day no matter how tempting it is, it will get worse.

The old VICKS (up to 1980's) had Benzodrine inside that could be removed and used in other ways.
The new VICKS has the usual over the counter medicines in it.

That very thing happened to me years ago. I had a terrible flu and the sinus congestion was horrific. I started to use the nose spray, and then used some more and more, I then thought I must have the worst sinus infection anyone alive could have as I had to use this stuff constantly throughout the day and the night. I literally would wake every three hours and could not breath AT ALL through my nose unless I got a shot from the spray, eventually went to the doc as I was sure I was ill. He told me I was addicted to the spray and the ony way to clear it up was to stop using it and switch to a saline solution for a bit of comfort if I needed. It was horrible. YOur sinuses literally close completely up. It was a week before I could breath properly and night time was worst, there was very little sleep. I now steer clear of anything other than the saline sprays when I need them. And yes after about the third day I wouldn't use it anymore, Been through it and didn't like it Also when I have told people I was "addicted" to nose spray they kind of laughed and thouthg "Yea right" It does happen.

Yep. Been there. Same thing too - had a bad head cold and could not sleep at night because my nose was so stuffed up. Used a generic over the counter inhaler and wondered why my nose was constantly stuffed up a month after the cold symptoms have passed. Doing a little research on the internet I found out that it is highly addictive which it does say on the bottle (but who reads that right?). Fortunately, I found a simple solution that worked. First, I just used the spray on the left nostril - just enough so I could breath at night. I did this for about a week on just the left nostril. And I just used a tiny bit - just enough to clear me up. Slowly, the right nostril began to clear in about a week. Then I just quit using it. The left nostril was all clogged for a little less than a week and than all better!
I never would have believed that you could become physically dependant so quick on NOSE SPRAY but believe me, you can!! It happened to me...

I did have a cousin (much, much older) who was addicted to nasal spray - as in, couldn't breathe out of her nose at all without it. Yuck to that too...I tried the stuff once and hated that "drippy" feeling.
My mom recalls how her mom made all of her kids actually swallow Vicks salve when they were sick - Yuck! My poor Mom...but then, she was raised in the 1930's, and she can remember her Mom being addicted to having her daily glass of Coke at the drugstore. I love drinking Coke NOW...I thought I was "addicted" to drinking it NOW...but I would definitely be for sure, if it was still made with its' "original" recipe...LOL
Sorry about all the drivel...it's just me, missing adult conversation again...LOL
Take care all!
Yuckily yours,

I was just talking about this nose spray stuff last night. My husband said that it's highly addictive and I told him that if taken right,it shouldn't do much harm, but I see that I was wrong.I guess I've never really considered the properties/contents of nose spray/inhalers.Our friend used to be addcted to afrin.Stone junky from this stuff, but why would anyone want to get a buzz from nose spray? I have no idea. But,who am I. I think if you go to druginfo.com,it will tell you what your looking for.

I'll tell ya right now what the F. it is. Some of these inhalers contain methamphetamine, it says so right on the label, just misspelled a little...
However... it is an INACTIVE isomer, the 'l' or 'levo' meth molecule which does NOT get you high, and there is NO practical way to convert it to the active version either.
As to whether or not it's addictive, I don't know, having never tried using it habitually.
And that's the proven a thousand times over truth about vicks inhalers.

I never heard anything about vicks inhalers or nose drops, but Primateme was the thing in my day. It sped you up, that's for sure, but then dropped you like a hotcake. I hope that's not what they're thinking about.

I grew up in the 1960's & 1970's and my mom did the same thing to me (i.e. made me eat Vicks vapo rub when I had a cold) when I was a little kid! Thank God I'm completely normal now....LOL

This link regards a Bronze medal Skier who was stripped of his medal after testing positive for meth. He used the U.S. brand Vicks Nasal Inhaler vs. the U.K. brand.

No it doesn't, according to my research. It's the same as the Vicks nasal inhaler, which contains Levmethamphetamine, a deactivated isomer of amphetamine. It'll give you the sweats, dry mouth, nausea, and lots of agitation, but it has little or none of CNS stimulant properties of true amphetamine speed. Vicks inhalers have always been like this as far as I know. No change in formula.
Only the Benzedrex Inhaler which has Propylhexedrine can come close to a speed buzz, but with some pretty dangerous side effects (see my rather lengthy post above).
