Well, I tried my Hydro Holiday and was doing great, but the pain returned with full force and the Ultram wasnt cutting it. So, I'm back on my hydro again. ARGH. But, I'm coming up on a 5 day weekend for Labor Day and intend on spending all 5 days in bed sleeping off my hydro w/d's. I have to get off the hydro pain or no pain. Its getting to expensive and my tolerance is increasing and I don't want to become 'addicted'. Anyways, anymore advice besides the Imodium AD would be great.

I can smypathize with your situation. I just went thru the withdrawls and it's really hard. I did get SOME relief with Coricidan. Otherwise robitussin has the same I just dont like the taste! I didnt sleep well or eat well or anything during the withdrawls. I did finally get some Codiphen (8mgs codine) and took 2 every 4 hours and that helped allot!
GOOD LUCK!

I feel for ya Hottie. I have finally accepted the fact that I'm going to be on pain medications for a long time, if not my whole life so I'm just going to concentrate on taking about a 5 day break every now and then. If you could get some Klonopin (Clonazepam) to help with the Restless Leg Syndrome (some call it restless body) that will help and also some valium or Xanax just to help you get some sleep at night. Best of luck, we all feel for you. Take lots of hot baths, drink lots of water and eat hot, filling comfort foods.

Someone else has suggested Robitussun(sp) cough medicine OTC and maybe phenergan(sp) along with Xanax, Soma, Imodium, and Ultram. Anyone tried Robitussum or Phenergran? I guess it's good that I'm single so no one will wonder why I'm sleeping over the 5 day weekend I'm just hoping once I get off the hydro again the Ultram will be sufficient for the pain. Ive been very conservative with my hydros as Im fearful of addiction.

All of the meds I'm about to suggest may/will require good research on your dosages, but finding a doctor would be best.
Clonodine is a blood pressure med used to help withdrawals from opiates (and it DOES help a lot). Sinemet is a med that helps a lot with Restless Leg Syndrome at night. Immodium as others have said on this board help with the other, unpleasant side effects. And Valium, used for 5 days, can be a great help in helping you sleep/relax.
There is also a vitamin/mineral/amino acid regimen you can take after the most severe withdrawals are over that include L-Tyrosine and B6, Magnesium, Copper, Zinc, SAMe and 5-HTP and Potassium (bananas) to give you back energy and relieve depression. That and lots of hot baths.
Also, I've heard that Ultram can cause more severe withdrawals than Hydro can, and dependancy can result after a shorter time of usage. My doctor and I actually discussed this recently -- personally, I would stay away from that one (partially from what I've read/heard, and also because it makes me feel really ill) .

Not knowing what dosage level you're at, I'd suggest that you reduce the dosage slowly rather than going cold turkey.
I've seen people go thru withdrawal from heroin -- common approach now is to give the patient either buprenex (aka temgesic) or methadone in daily decreasing amounts over about a week to ten days. Buprenex appears to be the kinder of the two and has the ability to block binding of other opiates, should you "cheat." They also typically give the patient 100mg of Trazadone at night to help sleep - there is great reluctance to give benzos to "people with an addictive nature." Personally, I think Legitimate is right, something like Klonopin/Rivotril would really help, especially in place of the hideous Trazadone. But you can't just start increasing the dose or you will end up with a new monkey. Many people claim that tramadol really helps, sounds like it didn't for you?

Well phenegren will help with any sickness if you have any and it may help you sleep. That stuff puts me out but that's just me. There also has been mention of Lomotil instead of immodium which you have to get from a doc. Just say you have excessive diharria and you can ask for it by name supposedly. I have never used it but it is supposed to work well. Hope this helps! I know what your going through!!! Whewwwww!!

Just a quick note not so much for wd strategy but for support and to let you know I feel your pain and know what you are going through. Thursday took 20 mgs of oxy and 2 t3s - nothing since (except T1s which are basically useless and just contribute to my stomach upset) and my life is hell. Had it down to 40 mgs for 2 wks then 20 for a wk. Was hoping perds and dhc would have been here now to help the taper regime. In final 5 days of 2 wks holiday and wife/family is depressed as hell watching me go through this. Tomorrow is my b-day and I'm wishing for a bullet. Love the pill - hate the pill. My avatar seems hardly appropriate now.

Junebug101 if youre looking at this, I was trying to send and reply to your PM, but it won't let me. You may want to look at your settings???
Anyways, I'm still tapering. Doing pretty well so far. I started out as "prescribed" every 6 hours as needed earlier in the week. Then, I did 8, and now I'm down to every 12 hours on Saturday and Sunday. So far, I'm noticing the cravings starting to subside and the pain is pretty controlled with Tylenol and the Ultram. But, tomorrow I'm going cold turkey. So, far so good. I plan on staying in bed all day tomorrow and Tuesday and hopefully by Wed when I return to work, I'll be off completely I think between the tapering and then the 2 days in bed, Ill be ok by Wednesday. Pretty much I'll be out of meds anyway tomorrow, so I don't have a choice. I was supposed to receive a new shipment from FedEx on Saturday and it got misdirected, so I wont get anymore until Tuesday because of the holiday. I think this was a sign and wake up call that this was the perfect time to start. It was very ironic that the weekend I pick to start going off hydro I'm forced to by FedEx. Don't you all think that sounds ironic? Wish me luck over the next 2 days!
