I have a primary doctor that prescribes me 50 Lortab 7.5/500 per month and that does not really help with my pain, so I have started to use an OP to put a dent into my pain. Do you think it is possible for my doctor to find out? I do not like doing this but I honestly feel I have no other choice. I have been to several doctors and they all just say Ultracet and Physical Therapy, which I work out everyday but the only thing that seems to help is the Lortab and muscle relaxers. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you

I had the same concern, duchess, when I first ordered from an OP. Though, I know with the HIPAA laws in effect, it is now illegal for your medical information to be shared with anybody without your specific written consent to do so. Though, this is a relatively new law, I'd feel confident in that.

It would be hard, but not impossible for your PCP to find out about OP usage. This is not what you asked, but I hope ya'll are aware you are more than likely double dipping. If you read the fine print on the OP's agreement, it says that you agree that you are not getting the same medication from another doctor.
I'm not placing any judgement, I just wanted ya'll to know.
You could always look for a good Pain Management Doc, or just order from OPs to rectify the situation.

That may well be true, but wether or not your Primary Care doc finds out about the scripts you get from the doc at the OP is probably not what you should be worried about. As Sweetz has pointed out, you are double dipping. Many OPs are related and share information, and there are some states where prescriptions for certain drugs are supposed to be cross-indexed to expose "doctor shoppers". For example, Florida has been trying to establish a statewide database for this purpose.
I guess it's extremely unlikely at the present time, but if you were unlucky enough that your Primary Care doc's prescriptions, and those of your OP pharmacy, happened to be filled in the same state, or even by the same pharmacy chain, you might not be able to prevent this information from being "shared".

There are no addition protections in HIPPA for doctor shoppers.

I hear the phrase 'Dr. Shoppers' and think of somebody who is shopping for Docs., not seeing one or multiple for additional meds. Anyhow, Billy's right and while HIPAA will protect your MEDICAL RECORDS from being released from one Dr. to the next without your specific consent to do so... it does not preclude a pharmacy from verifying through a database whether you've filled an Rx or not. TOTALLY DIFFERENT SCENARIOS! I'm curious to get more info. on double dipping. I think I'll start a thread elsewhere about that
