So far, about a 20% rate of seizures, which I find to be pretty high actually. I thought I would start this thread, and see if anyone wanted to post anything about either how bad they were, or if it was them or someone they knew, ext.
As I had said, I thought the risk was low, but maybe not so low after all, and I'm wondering just how bad the seizures were, and what they in-telled. Since I have a order coming in soon "I think", if something should go wrong, I would like to be able to tell my wife what she would need to do for me. I'm really not that worried about it, BUT! Always better to be prepared I think. SO fire away, and if it was you, and you would rather not let everyone know, you can always say it was someone you knew, or PM me, " I don't share personal stuff with out permission".

I think the wording of your poll might skew the results.
If anyone I "knew" had a seizure I might think well, I know this poster who wrote about her seizure from Ultram and then put a "yes" for a poll answer. Just a thought.
If you take other medication that lowers the seizure threshold (including alcohol and many SSRIs or related drugs like Wellbutrin-Zyban), have a history of seizures, or exceed the maximum dose, I would avoid tramadol.
Even then there will be some people who have seizures.
But as you wrote, it is rare.

RFRED2003, i know someone who had a gran mal seizure after taking ultram. the neurologist couldnt find any other reason that he had a seizure other than ultram sometimes does that to people. He said later that he remembered feeling "strange" along with a headache, dizzy feeling just prior to having the seizure. He had no idea what happened until he woke up in an ambulance, where they told him that he had a gran mal seizure.
I guess the biggest worry is that you could be driving a car, or some other equipment where you could get hurt or worse! Since you allready decided to take it, just take the recommended dosage and dont go over that!

Go here. I started a post on this subject when I started having trouble. I can tell you that you should not take Wellbutrin and Ultram at the same time. I am sure that is what started my troubles.

seizure as a BODY seizure. I was thinking at first you meant a customs seizure. I get it now. I do not know of anyone who has had one personally.

HUM, thanks for all the info, and I did check out the post that DTZNuff started also. I have taking ultram before, but only for a short time "4 to 6" months. I've tried to find some reading on it, but most of it is pretty basic stuff. QUESTION : Is ultram a narcotic or not? It's called a analgesic, but is that the same thing as a narcotic? I've only started doing this stuff for myself recently, so I'm a little behind on the info end of it. Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate it!

An analgesic is simply a painkiller; tylenol, aspirin, and morphine are all analgesics. It doesn't neccessarily mean narcotic.
Ultram's chemical structure is different from all other narcotics. It does, however, act on opiate receptors in the brain, so in that respect it could be considered a narcotic. Most people will not refer to it as a narcotic because it's not a tradional one, it's also a weak SSRI, and overdose is only partially reversed by Narcan (the antidote for opiate overdoses).
Narcotic has a legal meaning as well as a medical one. Ultram is not a controlled substance, and so, is not a narcotic.
But make no mistake, if you regularly take Ultram, you will get physically and possibly psychologically dependent. It will cause withdrawal just like any other opiate (though not to the same extent). It also feels a bit different than other opiates, maybe a little speedier.

In 1998, my pain Doctor switched me from hydro 10's 4 times daily and replaced it with Ultram. I live in a state where a minute minority of addicts made publicity about "hillbilly heroin" !! CP suffers, along with any Doctor that prescribed it legit, suddenly found themselves being labled addicts and crooked! All doctors, whatever their discipline, became under such intense scrunity, that you have to be terminal before they feel okay about giving it. Needless to say, this scrunity trickled down to all schedule meds. My pain Doctor had his license revoked in 1998 for being liberal with meds for CP"ers that had real pain and needed treatment. The med board got someone to con the doc, they said records on others were incomplete, etc.I went 2 years and never heard the word oxycontin by anyone in the place. The med board was kind enough to allow ultram for 2 months and I took my first dose at 1 pm, woke in an EMS vehicle and being treated for injuries I recieved when I fell as I had the first seizure of my life. The second seizure occurred 2 months later and I was 46 years old and never had that problem. I quit ultram and the seizures never returned. The common thing that both Hydro and Ultram had with me, I took Zoloft along with them. I believe the Ultram/zoloft combination triggered the 2 seizures. Be very careful if taking SSi's as I was driving alone when I had the 2nd seizure.I ran off the road and crashed into some small trees/bushes and wasn't injured. I was very lucky that night as I could have involved other people in accident with serious injuries. I stated above it hadn't happened in 46 years of life and hasn't repeated as soon as I stopped the zoloft. I only wish I had been on this board before that happened. Soc

WOW.....I must admit, you all are a wealth of information, THANKS!
One thing that keeps popping up is, it seems that most people that has had a seizure while taking Ultram was "also" taking some other kind of medication at the same time, which makes me feel a little bit better, since I don't take any other type of med's "other than my normal pain med's". Even my oxycontin will kill me, if taking with the wrong type of medication, but like I said, I don't take anything else but pain med's, so I'm feeling better about this now, I hate taking ANYTHING, and just about wont take anything for a sinus headache, in less I just HAVE to, so I think I should be ok with this.
You all are great, I'm really glad I found this site.
