An analgesic is simply a painkiller; tylenol, aspirin, and morphine are all analgesics. It doesn't neccessarily mean narcotic. Ultram's chemical structure is different from all other narcotics. It does, however, act on opiate receptors in the brain, so in that respect it could be considered a narcotic. Most people will not refer to it as a narcotic because it's not a tradional one, it's also a weak SSRI, and overdose is only partially reversed by Narcan (the antidote for opiate overdoses). Narcotic has a legal meaning as well as a medical one. Ultram is not a controlled substance, and so, is not a narcotic. But make no mistake, if you regularly take Ultram, you will get physically and possibly psychologically dependent. It will cause withdrawal just like any other opiate (though not to the same extent). It also feels a bit different than other opiates, maybe a little speedier. -yawkaw |
