Just curious if my semi regular taking of ambien 10mg would red flag a full spectrum pee test?

Ambien and Sonata are not benzodiazepines, though they act on the benzo receptors. So they won't show up on a routine drug screen, especially not for a piss test; but their blood levels can be measured if someone wanted to test for them.

It really depends on who you are peeing for and how much they want to spend. Ambien is usually not part of most routine drug screens, but it can be detected if they are looking for it. It can be detected in urine using TLC or GC/MS method at a lab. If it is a standard employment screen I wouldn't worry about it.

Good thread. After having had six major surgeries this year, I was going to ask about Ambien too, among other things, such as hydrocodone and/or Ultram. What do they "look" for? Since I have a script for everything I take, could they still say that I'd "failed" the drug test?

It would depend on what type of a job you are applying for. For example, I know a lot of truckers and they can not take certain meds even if revealed before the drug screen because of DOT regulations. If it is not that type of job maybe as long as you have a script from a local doctor and it is legal, you should say what you are taking before taking the whiz quiz in case it comes back positive. If not and you really want this job, you need to get your meds out of your system first. I say better safe than sorry.

I've found this site to be pretty accurate with cut-off levels, detection times and false positive info.

Ultram will not show up on a drug test. I know this first- hand. As for narcotics, only morphine and morphine- containing drugs are tested for. This would include codeine since your liver converts a percentage of it to morphine. Hydro, oxy, and dilaudid should be safe from detection also since they are made from thebane which is also extracted from opium, but is different than morphine.

Thebaine is chemically similar to morphine. The compounds made from it will produce a positive result when testing for opioids.

I had to have a drug test for pre-employment screening. They were set up very well, in that they had some chemical in the toilet so you could not tamper with that. Someone was waiting right outside the door for me so I got a little nervous. I had been taking Ativan for months on end ( at the time, I did not even know it was a benzo-thanks to DB I do). I had taken Vicoden within the last day as I had a root canal 5 days prior. I asked them if they wanted me to list the medications that I was on, and they said no, if anything comes up positive, we will need to request the script. Well, it came back negative, and I admit I was a little shocked. I guess some employers just screen for illegal drugs. I am surprised they would pay all that money for me to go to an out-of state clinic, and only test for...what? ...ditto
