I think used meds are like used underwear?

I don't think anyone will take them.

If you donate them to Hospice, by law they must destroy them. Does she have any friends her age that take the same meds? It may save them some money. Good luck.

No, you cannot donate them. You just have to throw them out. I used to work in a hospital pharmacy as a tech and the nurses were required to bring down all the med bottles that the expired patient may have had in their possession that the family didn't take with them, and we had to destroy them.

F.Y.I.

Warning! Hazardous Materials are contaminating our planet!

If you need to dispose of your medications call us first. Do not flush or throw them away.

The EPA does not recommend flushing medications down the toilet. They are contaminating our streams and oceans. Green Peace has suggested that this might be one of the reasons whales and salmon cannot find their native breading grounds. There are also reports that these medications could also be responsible for further breakdown of our planets ozone referred to as the “hydrozone” effect. http://www.epa.gov/ozone/hydrozone

If you need to dispose of your medication login to our website www.givemeurmeds.com and we will send an authorized Hazardous Materials representative to your home to pick up these medications.

Our HazMat Services are an integral part of our Environmental Capabilities. Also referred to as Phase III Environmental Remediation.

The first step is a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment. The Phase I Environmental Site Assessment is a thorough evaluation/consumption of the present and past condition of your medicine cabinet. It includes a database search, property history, site inspection and comprehensive report.

The second step is a Phase II Environmental Site Sampling. This can include soils, groundwater, medications, asbestos, lead, chemicals, underground storage tanks (UST’s), and biological agents such as bird droppings, mold and bacteria. Our certifiable environmental engineers will sample all of your medications.

The third step is a Phase III Site Remediation. This requires a Site Remediation Plan, a Health and Safety Plan (HASP), Site Safety Officer (SSO), and site sampling to insure the remediation is complete and all materials are confined to the site or removed and disposed of in a proper, legal and safe manner. After sampling your medications they will be safely removed from your property by a designated driver.

All of our employees are Hazardous Waste Material removal experts. (HazMat certifiable) Some of our employees are just plain wasted.

Thank you,

Trey

Good luck finding a place locally. Take the posters advice and find someone her age that takes the same medicine but make sure it is the same. I think that is a good thing as there are a lot of elderly folks who don't have enough money to pay for their meds.

Just ignore the losers. After all, what would a village be without the idiots

amagic, Hey I was just kidding around. I am sorry for the loss of your mom. I didn't intend to make light of that at all. I agree as far as if you could find a friend of your moms or someone like that that could use the meds. Elderly folks really get hosed when it comes to having to pay for alot of meds. I know as my mom was on alot of stuff before she passed. Again, I apologize if I crossed the line.

I'm sorry for your loss. I've been there with both parents and just gave the big sack of meds to Hospice. You probably won't believe this now but it DOES GET BETTER in time.

amagic2u,

i am very sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. please accept my condolences. i hope you have a good support system around you to help you get through this difficult time. if not, then please feel free to pm me. i'm a little behind on them, but you can be sure that i will answer yours if you need to talk.

to answer your original question, no, there is no place that will accept leftover meds. here's the problem with that. it is illegal for anyone, other than the person with that rx, to use prescription medication which was not prescribed to them. even if they have another rx for the same thing. iow, say, for example, i have a script for 30 t3s and get it filled, but then i run out (or lose the pills or whatever)before i'm up for a refill. and you also have a script for 30 t3s and get it filled, but you still have some pills left. it wouldn't matter if we were prescribed the exact same thing, LEGALLY, you wouldn't be allowed to share your pills with me.

now then, if the meds you want to donate were otc, they still wouldn't be donatable (if that's a word) for safety reasons. do you remember, i think it was sometime in the 80s, before they had to put the safety seals on the medicine bottles, someone had laced a bunch of otc tylenol with cyanide? and people died from it. no one in the medical community is going to take any chances when it comes to unsealed/ used medicines.

now, if you have otc meds that are brand new and sealed, well, that might be a different story, as they might still even be returnable to the store from which they were bought. but don't quote me on that one, i'm not sure what the exact laws are concerning unopened meds. but if they are already opened, then the only thing to do is to dispose of them.

There was a doctor in my home town that treated AIDS patients. Some unused medications was given to him for any of his patients that had financial hardships. He went to jail as a result. Your intentions are good, however, best just to toss them.

amagic2u, you are very welcome. the fact that you were willing to donate what you could for the benefit of others while going through such a difficult time shows what a kind, generous and thoughtful person you are. you are truly an inspiration.

Trey, I am glad you think you are so funny.

This is a serious matter, I sent her a bunch of money for all of the stool softener and I think I got ripped off because they didn't do a thing.

I started with just 2 stool softeners.
After about 2 hours, nothing.
So, I took 3 more.
Next morning, nothing.

Long story short, by the end of the week, the 5 bottles of stool softener, each bottle of 60 pills, were gone and they didn't do squat for me.

Maybe I am doing it incorrectly.

The first thirty weren't a problem.
AFter that it got much more difficult and MUCH more embarrassing.

I was in the mall with 3000 other strangers and I dropped my kids sippy cup.
Well, needless to say when I bent over, aLL 60 pills shot out of my butthole and through my pants like an M-16 on automatic.

I was mortified.
I quickly ran to the malls VERY public restroom went into a stall and dropped my pants.

I was in that stall for 45 minutes!
And in that time I was only able to stick 30 more tablets up my butthole.

My question, how far do I need to push the stool softeners up my rectum for them to work?

In return for someones taking the time to answer my question, I discovered a little secret.

If I wear my pants in the low riding, hip hugger style like the kids, my belt actually helps squeeze my butt cheeks together.

AS of this writing I have been successful in inserting and KEEPING over 70 of those little buggers up the canyon.

However, still no poopies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both of my parents passed away in the last 3 years.

They didn't leave any stool softeners behind but I did find some bottles of FLEET which I know to be an enema.

No luck with FLEET either, I must have drank a half dozen of those little squeezy bottles and, you guessed it, nothing.

PJ
