I've been taking 10mg of valium at night and the next day I have periods where I just can't stay awake! This feeling can last for a long time. Is this normal? does it have anything to do with pills long 36hr mean elimination half-life??? And exactly what does The mean elimination HALF-LIFE MEAN???

It just means that it stays in your system a lot longer than a med with a shorter 1/2 life. I had similar experiences with Valium and stopped taking it. I was on it about 6 months before I quit. I was tired of feeling tired and cranky all day. I have switched over to Xanax which does not leave me tired but it has a short 1/2 life meaning it is eliminated out of your body pretty quick, so rebound anxiety is sometimes a problem especially if I am stressed.

MEAN (CDC). The measure of central location commonly called the average. It is calculated by adding together all the individual values in a group of measurements and dividing by the number of values in the group.
For mean elimination half-life, time the average person shall metabolize (reduce) amount of the substance by 1/2. For example, after 36 hours theoretically the average person shall have only 5.0 mg valium remaining in system, 36 hors later 2.5 mg remains, etc., etc., . . . Another way to put it . . . the time it takes for the body to eliminate or breakdown half of a dose of a pharmacologic agent.
Hope this helps.

Up to 200 hours.
I'm not sure if they have that chart, but there are some other nifty charts and other amusements at www.benzo.org.uk

Oh, that's what I refer to as a "Vangover" (Valium hangover). Yeah, it stays with you longer for some reason.
I take Xanax for anxiety disorder, and when I wake up in the morning, I feel fine, unless I'm going through WD, then I wind up having what I call a "Xannitude".
In the rare event that I can't get any Xanax, I'll substitute Valium, but man, those stay with you a while. Try halfing them, that's what I do, it seems to work better for me that way. Good luck!!

valium is very long, there are shorter ones. xanax is a shorter one but its said to be the most addictive. maybe ativan is a short one. look it up on rxlist. triazolam and ambien are very short sleeping ones where you will have no effect in the morning.
diphenhydramine, the over the counter antihistamine, may be an effective alternative to GABA drugs for insomnia. it is offically indicated for histiminergic allergies, motion sickness, and insomnia. common brand names are "benedryl" and "unisom" but always buy generic. sams club has 400 pills for 3 dollars where as unisom is like 6 bucks for 12 50mg pills, outragious. ask your doc about it
