If You were going to TIQUANA MEXICO next month???
      #94371 - 08/18/03 07:28 PM

If You were going to TIQUANA, MEXICO next month to have a Lot of Dental Work Done and you were going to pick up something for stress (for example--valium) and for aches and pain's, (for example--a codiene product). What has been your experience, and your best advice, and the usual and unusual experience's with the border patrol? Much Thanks in Advance!

PM, if necessary, if you know what I mean, about the above question's. Much Thanks, Again!

PS: Also, any advice about purchasing some cigarette's there? Something about the same as KOOL cigarette's, sold here in the USA? How about the cost, is there a big difference between the USA cost's of cigarette's and cigarette's bought in Mexico? And, what Brand is sort of like the KOOL Brand Cigarette's sold here in the USA?

I don't know about drugs purchased overseas, however! When I went to Mexico on vacation last year, cigarettes were cheap as all get out! I paid 14 pesos per pack (then the equivalent was 8.4-9.4 pesos per dollar... so, 14 pesos was approximately $1.50 per pack) for Marlboro's and Camels. Though, I'd smoke a pack there before bringing them home- while they're the same brand, they don't have the same taste. They're very moist- normally I smoke Marlboro's but preferred Camel's there as the flavor resembled Marlboro's here more than the Marlboro's did Good luck!

Greycie,

Sounds like you smoke as many cigarette's as I smoke. Glad I am not the only one that smokes a lot of cigarette's. I gotta get some of those cheap (inexpensive) cigarette's!!!

Best Regard's

In tijuna there is a pharmacy call hailys. Ask taxi driver to take you there its right off of revolution. about 2 blocks north of hai lie(I know I didnt spell correctly).
They sell everything tylenol 3 valuim xanax halcion oxycotin, soma. I have done business for two years with them and never a problem. Also they take credit cards for part of purchase. I once bought 1500 dollars worth of product and no problem. They speak great english. No scripts needed.

I'd be really careful in TJ - we went to Ensenada for a weekend last year. I looked up all these sites about traveling in Baja. Several of them had posts addressing Americans purchasing medications there (not just pain meds). One poster wrote that some of the farmacias will call police if someone is trying to buy meds w/o a valid script - you get outside and there are Federales waiting for you. Not a pleasant idea, so I didn't even try. Small amounts, maybe, but I'd take empty bottles of the same meds with you and dump the pills in there. At least they're from a US pharmacy with your name on them. My aunt and uncle have a place in Rosarita and they take their US scripts and have them filled there but keep a copy of the script to show Customs if necessary.

I saw a show on comedy central with Dave Attell the comedian. He went into a pharmacy and bought Viagra, Codeine, and Valium over the counter.

I believe he was in Tiajuana.

it makes me nervous to see this posted on the free board. I'd be scared to go to baja and get medicine because of the new crackdown with border patrol. nowadays if you drive the southern route into southern california you have to go through border patrol. and that's just if you are coming from texas. dogs sniffed around my car. I know they are just checking for stow-away people jumping the border, but this is a crackdown and I thought it worthy of a post.

I too would be nervous about doing something like that, the thought of ending up in a Mexican Jail is enough to keep me from ever attempting it!

I think you all will enjoy my experience going to Tiquana a few years back.
I am sure thing are a bit tighter now because my trip was pre 911 and I entered thru way of Southeren Cali. I let my friend drive down who was drinking at the time and I was taking my daily meds along side him the whole way down. Well we crossed the boarder...smooth sailing in and we began to drive around to look for some where to eat and park. I don't remember the name of the street but it was for sure main street you could tell by all the shops and things...& then out of no where a bum either stumbled in front of our car or something and we must had hit him going about a good 25 to 30 miles an hour & he rolled up over top of the hood and the roof and ended up in back of us layed out. My first thought was we are going to spend the rest of our lives in a mexican jail for killing someone. I got out of the car & thank God I speak Spanish...Crowds started to form around us say stuff like U killed him..give him something for his troubles ...help him! A few seconds passed...seemed more like hours then he started to move thank God again so my friend & I helped him up and put his shoe back on him and made sure he could stand up and I gave him a few US dollars I had loose that I had in my pocket for the trouble. We jumped back in the car & High tailed it around the corner and parked to gather our thought about what just happened. Man were we lucky & Blessed that day because if the policia showed up we were done for they would of locked us up and taken avery dime we had in our pockets including the car too most likely & that was my friends car he lent us for the day. We caught our breath and walked up the side street and found a place to get some grub to hold us over. Afterwards we went window shopping not to far away from where it all took place and one of the shop keepers with a smile on his face said to us ...O' You were the Americans who hit that guy...Great just what I did not want to hear. He went on to explain that it happens alot that a bum will on purpose walk in front of your car if you not moving to fast just to get some money out of you. I thought to myself that was the best $7.00 dollars I ever spent to get out of a jam that's for sure. We stayed over night and I hit many pharmacy"s looking for what ever I could find. In most cases I had to go to a pharmacy and they in turned called a doctor who came down to where we were and he wrote me some scripts for some Darvon ,Codinie #3...better known as Tylex and some Valiums. I think I went into one pharmacy and just payed for the meds without a script and after all that I made sure to put them in bottles I had brought that I had had some prior scripts for & disgarded the boxes but keep the scripts the doc. wrote just in case we needed them to cross back over. We stayed the night in some rundown motel & in the morning high tailed it out of there ASAP. The border crossing was a long wait with it being a Sunday morning and all the college kids were crossing back over to get to classes on Monday we just waited & waited...gave me more than enough time to think of all that had happened and if we were going to make it over the boarder at all with the meds or mayby someone got are plate #. We arrived at the terminal and the American customs agent checked are I.d.'s asked us why we went their and I replyed just for a weekend of un and I told him it was my first time visiting. He gave us back our I.D.'s and said to us welcome to Disney Land...what ever that meant. We were across the boarder and man I will never forget the trip that could have gone a whole different way but by the grace of God we made it back in one piece with the car a little banged up but no worse for wear. So there ya have it my experinece in T.J.
TheMedMan ...ps...I do look forward to going back one day but this time I think I will be a little more carefull.

Let me know how your dental work goes who does it, quality of work -- i have a friend who needs alot done, and are considering going to mexico for it cause he has no dental coverage and its high dollar restorative work.

I live in AZ have been to mexico often, Tijuana, Rocky Point, Its fun and had no probs, well, no major problems! My experiences:

I cound't buy vicodin or T-3 for my pains... But can get Soma easy. Bring your own prescription bottle if u have. Theres a limit, but i just bought more and put the excess in my orignal RX bottle.

The Pharmacist said if i see local doc for 50.00 and get RX they would dispense and sell me stronger meds.

ALSO Don't pass thru border area often, it will raise a Red Flag to the agents. We once drove in and out a few times in one day, (were staying in hotel, AZ side) and they pulled our car over for inspection w/ dogs, looked everywhere. I was so scared,, they would take my precious El Camino!! They let us go no probs, asked what we bought in mexico which was only birth control pills and retin-a.

Booze and cigs are cheap.

Be careful people drive like maniacs!

I love mexico, The people are really nice, and they love our money. I may be heading down there next week to have some margaritas and yummy tacos.

Have fun on your trip
