How long does it normally take to get your medical records?
I filled out their request and sent it in and this was shortly after joining DB (mid-July). I called on Friday and could not get an answer from my PCP's office, they say it takes time and to be patient!! Well, it's now October!!

Do what I did. Walk into your PCP office and ask the receptionist that you need a copy of your medical records because while you are standing there they will have no excuse not to. Tell them you are seeing a specialist or somthing and you need them right now. It worked for me
Good luck!!

I agree walk in and tell them you need them for insurance purposes.Period nothing else. They are your records and you have been waiting since July? Wow,a relative of mine started building a 4 bedroom house in July. They have been living there for a month already.Just an example of time.Demand the records...Good Luck

I like how they tell you it will take a while. Good grief! All it takes is someone to get off their fat duff and make copies for you. When I had asked for mine, they had copied them and I asked that they put them in my file and I would pick them up when I was ready. Well it took me a few weeks to get up there and when I did she couldn't find them. I said I wanted them now, please! She says, well I will see if I can get them for you. I must have sat there for 15 minutes. I finally told her that all she had to do was copy the ones from Jan, and that was it and I didn't understand why this was taking so long. She was sitting there doing absolutely nothing. I was a bit testy when I asked, so she did get up and make copies right then. I would go into the office as the other posters had said, say you need them now and you will wait for them to make copies for you. That is ridiculous. They treat YOUR OWN records as if they are something top secret. It is crazy. It sure the hecht shouldn't take em this long. Get a bit more demanding

from my experience all I had to do was fill out a request and pay about 10 cents a page. I think it took me all of 2 days to have them.

That makes me mad: they are playing with power that they DO NOT HAVE. I would suggest that you phone your state medical board. Do not waste your time with the local doctor's clubs: they exist to protect each other. The medical board will investiate the actions of your PCP or specialist and demand that they release your records or else. The medical board will send you a form to fill out and once they get it, they will begin the investigation. They will get results because they are the power that can put a doc on probation or revoke his/her license. The latter rarely occurs but I have seen guys put on probation because of my complaining. Good luck. I am with you.

Chevy,
I just got back from the doc's office and did request them again, they said I had to fill out the form and send it in, I told them I did that back in July and even showed them my copy and the date I mailed it. The address sent to was correct etc. etc. They tried messing with me again, I told them I need the records NOW! Well they sent the office mgr out and she said I have to wait, I said I am reporting them to the State Board because I have been waiting since July. I was not rude or nasty with them because I don't want any trouble and she said they will copy them and call me to pick them up that they could not do it right then & there. I said how long? She said tomorrow morning. I said I am calling YOU directly in the a.m. and I will be in to get them, just tell me how much I owe and I will write and check or pay cash, I just want the stupid records! I will see what tomorrow brings....I am NOT holding my breath....

good for you! the "medical profession" is so used to giving orders that it kills them to have to take them.........I don't trust any of them.
