These are now my words. Tis is NOT a hoax. I have deleted names that are on this for security reasons which you do not need that this message orginally went to in my district. This is from Texas Workforce Commission.
There is no reason not to pass it along as it instructs in the memo.
I got that f_______ worm in August. These viruis's are serious when they invade home computers.

Isn't this post in the wrong forum? It doesn't pertain to anything revelant here.
As for this post: Just use web-based email services like hotmail or yahoo that have built in antivirus protection and you're all set. These viruses are stopped before they ever reach your inbox. If you don't have antivirus software installed on your system along with the latest antivirus definitions, you shouldn't use a computer. Don't open attachments directly from your email. Download them to your desktop first and then scan them with your antivirus software for viruses before opening them.

I hate these things, it is a hoax, passing it along just adds more email traffic to the internet. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/wtc.survivor.hoax.html
The worm that was around in August was the Blaster worm which exploited a hole in MS Windows. Keep your machines patched and your virus defs up to date and you will be fine.

I'm with Fred. Often times, we get email from people such as this and all too frequently, people send it along without verifying whether it's an actual threat or just a hoax. Anymore, I don't even read this sort of email I know not everyone has the time to check to see if it's a hoax or not and wants to warn people of these things as a courtesy, but my theory is, if you have the time to read the email and then post or forward it, then you have the time to check and see if it's a hoax first

Assuming they know how, or understand the prevalence of hoax email.
Thanks for the vigilance nonetheless, kimbell

True enough sonick and Angl. I know sometimes I'm guilty of being a little too blunt and think I started out trying to suggest a possible explanation for the post- but prolly came across, yet again, as more harsh than intended #chagrined In any event, I know a lot of people aren't aware that there are so many hoaxes out there and take what they get as gospel. I wish more people WERE aware of all of the email hoaxes out there- I remember seeing one sent around again (I'd received it first about 2 years ago and more recently about 3 months ago) in which it had directed people to remove a file on their computer that they actually needed If only there were as many warnings for email hoaxes as there are actually email hoaxes, lol- I think things of this nature would be much less frequent

P.S.- hopefully this will help some- if you receive an attachment REGARDLESS OF WHO IT COMES FROM(!)- that means family, friends- run a virus scan on the attachment before ever opening it. I opened a virus several years back that came in an email from my parents. Duh- why would I ever think THEY'D send me something that wasn't safe Lol- of course, often times viruses come from somebody you know on account of their email account having been infected and then sending out from their address book Oh, on a related, but side note- I also had an exboyfriend send me the GirlFriend virus- never thought he'd be guilty of that- but just be careful about anything you open- from anybody. You can never be too safe And lemme tell you! The GirlFriend Virus is ICKY!!! Allowed the psycho-freak access to all of my passwords- email account- other accounts- computer- I.M.'s- ewwwww!!!

As a sys admin, I have to deal with these types of emails on a daily basis. We have our users trained to ask before they click on attachments because we had a certain user give the network 3 viruses in one month before we had standardized on a single, server run antivirus application. Forgive me if I sounded short with the original poster. I still remember the "teddy bear" virus hoax that a bunch of people removed the Java debugger from their machines. They can't do that anymore either. Just give me 5 minutes alone in a room with virus writers/hoax writers and a Louisville Slugger....

Lol Fred! THAT'S the email I was referring to where so many actually removed the file from their pc! I couldn't believe I'd gotten it not once, but also a second time so much later and that people were still frantically removing the file unawares... it's good to educate- I believe that's the best defense

To original poster: if anything, you probably got a virus from opening this email..... TONS of viruses are spread by way of 'Warning: Virus on the Loose' type of emails. Infact that is probably the #1 type of spam that viruses travel through. Think about it from a hacker or virus-writer's point of view: get a chain letter going about 'beware the virus' - Lots of people open it because they think it is of *utmost importance* - open the attachment, BAM! got a virus. I used to work in tech support for an ISP - trust me this is a major cause of people getting viruses. Just the online version of the classic 'urban legend' tales, but in this case, reading the urban legends can infect your PC. I wouldn't open any unsolicited mail (someone probably did - I know it was forwarded to you by a friend, but who *originally* got this email? It was probably a spam sent to someone way down the forward:forward:fwd list of email addy's..... I also don't open mails from friends that have forwarded attachments -- I trust my friends but not when it comes to computer intellect...
