Red hill,
Let me first say the I feel both your physical & emotional pain. I did have a similar situation with a pm Dr. My pcp sent me to the ortho who did mris, bone scans, exrays, etc...then he says, "I really don't know how you are walking around the way you do (my back id that bad) He in turn gave me some percocet (which I can't take for some reason they make me very sick) and sent me to a pm Dr. well the pm Dr. had absolutely no bed side manner at all and I didn't like him from the get go. ok, so now I tell him that the percs make me violently ill, so he said, we will try the icodin es (7.5 mg) ok, that worked, but he gave me 30 yes 30 to last me a month! after about the 3rd month when I called his secty for a refill, she got very snotty. When I went in to pick up my script, she said I had to talk with the Dr. He said that he wanted me to go to a phychiatrist to see if I had addictive qualities! for only 2 months of a total of 60 vicodin es??? Well needless to say, I thought he was the one who needed to see a physciatrist and to go back to school to learn about pain management. I never went back. So about 2 months later, I was in excrutiating pain, so I went back to my ortho (he also had done surgery on both of my hans) said he would give me a script for the percs (I told him to check my charts) as I couldn't hanmdle the percocet, but I could tolerate the hydro. well he left the room and low & behold, in my chart the pm Dr. had written my ortho a note in bold green highlighter that I was just looking for drugs from multiple Drs! Now these are the only2 drs that I have seen for the pain in my back! I was LIVID and I told my ortho dr so. How can I be a drugseeker when he only gave me 30 hydros a month for only 2 months??? I was so angry that I was in tears. My ortho then gave me a script for 12, yes 12 hydro to deal with the pain. I just can't believe how insnsitive that some Drs can be. Needless to say I went to a new PM Dr. last month about 60 miles away from the old pm dr.. I had to sign this 8 page opiate agreement and that they wanted to try the steroid epidurals (I already had 3 sets of 3 shots) and they never worked. So when I made my appt. with the new pm Dr. the nurse said that they will try alternative therapy, but the Dr. will not prescribe me any hydro for the pain?!? I didn't understand that...so I went to my appt. when they told me about doing the injections again, SHe said that Dr. Metz*** was the best Dr. to do his. Low & behold, that is the same pm Dr. that called me a drugseeker! So I never went back to that pm center again. I am at my wits end, I suffer from bi-polar & severs depression (I am on social security disability) for this. I am so disgusted with drs and this makes me feel much more depressed. I really don't know what to do anymore. The op are my only little light at the end of the tunnel. I really don't know what I would do without them. So if anyone in this forum is around NY or NJ that knows of a good & compasionate pm Dr., Please let me know. I am tired of both the physical & emotional pain, I need a miracle! love to all. Anglwink
I certainly understand YOUR pain, Angel! I too was referred to a PMD that was a jacka**...had all of my MRI results, KNEW the pain was real, but would not prescribe anything for pain..had to go the 'nerve ablasion' route, after a series of failed epidurals by the ortho (one of which was badly botched by an overly arrogant and obviously undertrained PA). Ther nerve ablasion did nothing...I am currently without health insurance, but when the new policy finally kicks in, you can bet I am getting a whole new 'team' to deal with my back! And fortunately, I have never been labeled a 'drugseeker' (yet), at least not to my knowledge.
