Hmmm, interesting thread. I'm really sorry you're going through this, it truely sucks.
First of all, how come your chart from the PCP was at the PM Dr's office? Were these notes on test results, or communication between the DR's about your case? IS this statment in your actual chart from the PCP's office, and the PM DR has a copy?
Yawkaw has the right idea regarding the lawyer, you absolutely ARE within your right to correct any error in your records, and a lawyer can help you with this, but from what I understand it can be a huge hassle, so you might want to take a look at the big picture first. Unfortunately you can't take legal action against a DR for putting that statement in writing UNLESS you can prove you have been damaged in some way, and by "damaged" I mean financially or physically.
PersonalIy, I think you should ask the PM DR about how to handle this in switching DR's, he knows you're not abusing medication or he wouldn't have written the script. It might just be a matter of requesting your records and getting rid of anything inappropriate before submitting to a new DR.
What I feel is the most important thing to think about, is that you don't EVER want to be put in the position of lying about this, especially to a new DR. You don't want this to come back and bite you because you're denying the statment was there.
Grayce is INCORRECT with her statement that if the DR's work for the same HMO, they will have asscess to all of your medical records, what you were prescribed, etc. They only have access if YOU allow it. Of course, any NEW DR, is going to want a copy of your records before they treat you, which is why you handle this carefully.
BTW, I hope you take the "weight loss" advice with a grain of salt. You're clearly working very hard to get well and improve your life. I feel it was inapporpriate, and unkind to respond to you in that way.
