Does anyone know if there are just a few drug tests out there or are there too many to count?

I have to have occasional drug tests by the pain clinic who is treating my pain. They want to make sure that I am taking the pain meds they give me (and not selling them!). They also tell me that they test for abuse or not by checking med levels in the urine...is this possible??

I really don't know much about urine drug tests and I am scared to ask too much about it to the nurses as when I ask too many questions, I feel that they get "suspicious" or maybe its just me...i don't know!!

I did ask the lab tech person a couple of questions after giving my urine. I asked about Red Bull showing up on the urine drug test...I had read on the web about Red Bull showing up on some screens as amphetamine or even as meth. Remember, I DO take Ritalin but hadn't taken it the week of my test at all. The lab tech person told me that she didn't really know but that the testing they do for urine drug was a computerized kind of test that could distinguish between herbs and chemical medications. Does that mean they would pick Ritalin out away from, and different than, whatever ingredients Red Bull has to make it show up on other tests as amph/meth?

I am not allowed to have any meds in my body that are not prescribed by this pain clinic or from the two docs that can treat me and write scripts for me. I do take Xanax or Ativan for my anxiety/panic issues but I get that med from an OP so they don't know about that one. And I take occasional Fioricet for headaches, which I am also not allowed to take (according to them).

I am only supposed to have fentanyl (from patch) and hydro, and Ritalin, in me. I had to take a urine drug test on Friday, October 1. I had taken 3 Fioricet tabs on Tuesday (3 days before the test) and Xanax last was taken about 7 days before the test.

I know that the Xanax was not going to show up but the Fioricet had a good chance of showing up. They don't monitor my urine tests and allow me to go in the bathroom myself (without an audience). My 4 yo son went with me and I did use HIS urine for my test with mine....about half and half.

My question is....would the computerized test detect that it was two different urine samples in one even though it was my son's (since this is computerized and can pick out different meds)? And since I gave about half of the sample, I was hoping that the hydro and fetanyl would show up but in a smaller degree....am I correct in thinking this way?

I haven't yet gotten back my results of this urine test. Perhaps I will tomorrow, on Wednesday, but I am not sure. They generally send me a generic letter telling me that hydro is positive and nothing else...they do not send me the actual lab report. The Duragesic patch is new to me and this is my first drug test with the patch on.
