Elusis got popped over his girlfriend, she ran her mouth. Nothing at all to do with Hive. He posted almost exclusively on Usenet anyway, on a.d and then after it was created, on a.d.c, my own former home away from home prior to The Hive. I just got tired of all of the "how can i make meth" and "how many vicks inhalers do i need?" (overlooking the concept of stereochemistry entirely) - the social fabric of the Internet has changed a lot when the floodgates were opened by people like The Well, Portal, Delphi and eventually AOL and ma and pa ISPs. When that happened, there was a lot more conversation and some fresh ideas, which are always a good thing, but the signal:noise ratio went WAY up, and Hive became a nice quiet off-ramp from the stupidity.
I remember one post where Drone, a total guru chemist, was describing some complex situation involving LSD on the Advanced Methods board - it was like reading Latin, it was so obscure - then someone jumped into the middle of it and said "LSD actually comes from a fungus, you know - and it is also in Hawaiian Rosewood Seeds!" Oh my goddess, just the sudden contrast of trying to understand this brilliant man's description of whatever it was, and suddenly seeing that post. It was like suddenly going from Dennis Miller to Richard Pryor, only even more so. I almost had to get stitches from falling over backward laughing, but it was just so unexpected.
SB got busted because a junkie bimbo he knew sold him out. That is all that needs to be said about that.
