As much as I feel for anyone sufferring in pain, stealing a prescription pad to write your own prescriptions is worthy of jail time.
All of the other factors in this event cannot defend this action.
Let's keep a few things in mind, shall we?
First of all, even if, iif it was worthy of a jail sentence, do you really think it's justified that this be a 25-year mandatory sentence?
Shall we also keep in mind that a person consumed with pain may not be thinking very clearly? Maybe he has one priority and that is to suffer less?
Also it is a matter of one person's word against another. His former doctor sold him out, but for all we know, this doctor is a lying piece of Best if kept off the board, and for all we know he did at one point say he could use the prescriptions if he really needed to.
Bottom line: NOTHING justifies these beastly sentences. They are not even well-thought out. They are mandatory, no thought need go into in. We put the pills on a scale WITH the Tylenol and FILLER, weigh it all, and decide that that weight is pure contraband for our judging purposes.
The legal system makes me sick.
I feel there should be no prison sentences for drug crimes that are non-violent, but UNTIL we clear up this mess and change drug laws for the better, let Rush Limbaugh fight for change from his gaol cell, since he is equally guilty. He's just better connected.
