I used to work in MI for a large pharmacy chain as a pharmacy technician. Schedule II are required to be on a different script pad than all others. It was a green form with the State of Michigan seal on it. Each script has a different DEA number which is recorded in the computer system when the script is filled. Anything other than a schedule II is filled the same. These are the only scripts monitored. And the only time a doctor was called on a script (no matter what the schedule) was when the pharmacy tech or the pharmacist could absolutely not figure out what the doctor was writing for. On scripts that were not schedule II we would even look at the patients history to see what they had used before and fill it for that strength or whatever. It was never customary to call and verify any script that could be read. Pharmacy's do not have this kind of time and the doctors never get back to you anyways.
