Midrin has been a lifesaver for my migraines. I was fortunate to get a very large supply of them the last time I went to my doc so I havent had to order them online, but they've worked for me. Since my migraines lack a significant aura, many other migraine meds dont work for me.

From my doc, he said to limit taking the midrin to no more than 5 pills daily. He said something about causing brain damage or something like that. Usually just taking 2 on the onset of pain works well for me

Correct me If I am wrong please, but hasn't Midrin been around for quite some time now? If I am remembering correctly, it was one the first drugs my PCP tried on me aprroximatly 15 years ago? If in fact I am thinking of the right drug, it helped sometimes, on and off but never reliable. Doesn't it act directly on constricting the blood vessels that when are inflamed cause the migraine....kinda like the imitrex and all those??

You are right Midrin has been around a long time. I personally have never tried it so I can't vouch for it. I have been getting migraines premenapause so not that long. Of course the triptans are what docs are pushing so that is what I take which is Maxalt. I am not sure of the pharmacology of it or how Midrin works. I don't believe it is a triptan but could be wrong.

Wow too many will give you brain damage?? I don't think I will try Midrin.

I would imagine that if you take too many of almost anything it could potentially cause brain damage. I tried/used midrin for my migraines about 8 years ago for a couple of years. It worked about half of the time, and the side effects weren't as bad as other meds I have used.

The trick with Midrin is to take two at a time, along with a Fiorcet. I suffered from brutal migranes years ago, and a headache doctor prescribed that combo for me. As long as I could take it at the very first sign of a headache, it usually would work -- but not for those worst, hiding-in-the-dark-because-you-feel-so-sick-and-can't-take-the-light migranes.

Is Midrin a triptan like Imitrex and Maxalt? I was just curious. Yeah for the hide in the dark migraines, little helps.
