double dipping is really referring to doctor shopping. If your doctor gave you hydro pills and hydro syrup, which would be weird to do so, its ok, one is cough syrup, but your original post about getting lorcet or whatever online at a stronger strength is doctor shopping or double dipping. If it has the same base medicine in it being hydro in this case and 2 different doctors who do not know about each other and whatever OP you use will ask if you are getting from somewhere else and you have a contract already with your local doctor, meaning you violated your contract and probably lied to the OP who asked if you were getting it from somewhere else. I think its in the questionnaire too, but I see a simple solution if you feel guilty, you are getting the equivalent of 12.5 10mg pills for 28 days and you can stop getting it from him and start getting it from YOD for example with 120 count which is equivalent to 240 a month of what you are getting now. You may pay a co-pay to doctor and co-pay for your prescription and that amount of money plus the gas to see that doctor probably costs more than the 12.5 you can get from online as part of a total script. I don't know your health problem and that's your own business, but I never heard of a doctor prescribing once a day dosing when you get 120 online for 25 days at which is 35mg more per day of hydro than u signed for. You should break it off with local doc if you feel morally obligated to follow the law to the t. The reason why people doctor shop is because they are not getting enough of one type of medicine and dd online. If I may ask you a question, you require 3 a day to get relief, but you only had enough for maybe 10 days a month, how did you build a tolerance. I am not judging you, everyone is free to do what they want. Do what works for you, I dont remember if you said this doc was a pain management or regular doc. If he is pain management, your decision seems pretty obvious to go to online only

Thats how my insurance company works too. I could only get so many hydro's and so many refills per year or something. Well, after surgery, the pain did go away for a while, but has since returned and now I just use my OP and forget about my insurance company and primary doctor completely. He gave me SEVEN 5/500 hydro's for 'emergency' pain and then a regular rx for Ultram. So, I just gave up and went the OP way. No way 5/500 was going to touch the pain I was in. I'd have to take at least 2 or 3 of them to get any relief at all.

I just truthfully wonder the percentage of people on this board have to legitimately double, triple, quad dip to get adequate pain relief? It makes me wonder sometimes. It saddens me as a RN that people have to even go the online route and pay outrages prices let alone have to DD at that.

Supri,
6/01 I finally had an MRI ordered by my Ortho. Surgeon- I was diagnosed with 2 bulged discs in my lower spine and lordosis- misshapen spine in the cervial area. The cough syrup I was prescribed because I had a horrible cough along with a cold and didn't want to use my limited supply of Vicodin for that- so I asked my doc for it and he gave it to me. In Washington state, you don't need an Rx for cough syrup with codeine, I'm assuming it's similar to hydro? I don't know that for a fact, that's speculation- but there was no sense using my Vicodin for the cough if I wouldn't have it for the pain in my back. And no, my copay for the Rx is all that's needed- I call my doc, tell him I need another Rx and he gives it to me, no appt. necessary. The gas is minimal, prolly less than a dollar and since the V I get from my doc is $8 add gas at approximately $.50 because he's close, it's not cheaper to get it online, it's just more beneficial as they'd give me more. As for your tolerance question, who said I had a tolerance? I've had to take 3 5/500's to get pain relief since I first began taking them because the pain is that great when I DO take them and having such a limited supply, I have to use sparingly. This is my primary- I saw a physiatrist (your Pain Management doc., I suppose) who told me to do certain exercises and my back pain would mysteriously vanish. Okay, well, I work out 1-2 x's daily- nothing is helping. The problem is, my discs have not fused yet, and have progressively gotten more painful and more frequent over time. Keep in mind, it's been 2 years since my MRI- things have probably gotten worse.
