Looks like we might be seeing ER Dilaudid coming soon! Here is some info on the new HydromorphContin(C2) that I heard about:
Our friends at Purdue are coming out with the extended release forms of hydromorphone in the US. It is due out in the next two years. It is unbelievable to me that they even got (or will get) this drug approved in the US after all the hysteria about Oxycontin. I believe it is already approved in Canada.
The pills will be in 12 hour form and will be available in the following 5 dosages:
3mg Orange Caps (roughly equal to 10mg OC)
6mg Pink Caps (20mg OC)
12mg Green Caps (30mg OC)
24mg Grey Caps (60mg OC)
30mg Red Caps (80mg OC)
I have a feeling the 30mg red caps will quickly become legends in their own time.

PS I once had a job interview at Purdue and one of the managers proudly refered to her company as "America's legal drug dealer." Of course I wasn't really listening to her because I was more focused on finding out where they kept the companies product samples..lol

I wonder why they even make this stuff when noone will prescribe it for people that need it ?
Probably would work good for many including myself... not that we'll ever find out. Good to see terminal patients may benefit from this though.......

Wouldn't this be just a longer acting version of dilaudid? I don't know about the rest of you, but for those of us who have taken it, it's not that effective orally. I wasn't impressed. It was fine if I took it on a daily basis, but for taking one dose or 2, it was practically ineffective.

I hear you sonick. Its time to break the backs of all DEA and doctors. It might make them a little more considerate.
DEA Agent: OWW MY BACK!!!!
Doc: All I can give you is Tylenol #1, and you'll have to drive to canada to get that OTC.
DEA Agent: WHAT?!!!? but I am in PAIN!!!!
Doc: I know, its your fault though, you keep putting people in jail and ruining the lives of doctors who prescribe pain meds. Reap what you have sown, bi-atch!
DEA Agent: NOOO!! It's not fair!!!!
Doc and all of his pain patients: Thats what we tired to say when you used your Gestapo type tactics to make our lives miserable for no good reason while the illicit drug trade still went on strong.

Dilaudid has less of an effect on the bowels than other opiates in the same potency class. My guess is that it's an alternative for people who are overly sensitive to the constipation.
Morphine's (ala MSContin) not very active orally, either. I think it's just another marketing strategy. Maybe OxyContin's black box warning boosted sales of MSContin, so they see a new opportunity? I'm certain it will be a big hit with drug addicts, though...

Man, unfortunately I find that all too easy to believe. "Our Friends" at Purdue knew exactly what they were doing with Oxycontin, so-called time-release mechanism or no,
Oh and thanks for the link, yawkaw.
