I have a question: I might need to go to a doc soon for something non-pain related...I've used an OP, and would rather not disclose that, or the pain meds, for obvious reasons. Does anyone know whether our OP scripts are registered so that the information could be available to the non-pain doctor? I'd appreciate any insights!
And I apologize, I asked this before the weekend, but can't find the relevant thread...doh to me.

The only way the doctor would know is if you got the prescription from the same place you are getting them online and that is if the pharmasist called and told the doctor. Even then I don't think you have anything to worry about since it is two completly different meds. Online or local

Thanks for the insights...maybe I'm just paranoid, but with everything I read in the papers and on the boards...I guess it just worries me to not be entirely truthful on that piece of paper in the doc's office that asks if you are being prescribed any other medications.

I feel the same way....however, if these docs did their job to begin with we wouldn't be doing this!!!! I started using an OP when my doctor told me I LOOKED healthy so no doctor was going to take me seriously about my complaints of pain. When I'm laying in bed at night crying because of the pain I doubt I look so healthy

Thanks for the replies, folks...now, if only I could find a pain doctor who doesn't look at me sideways because I obviously look better than I feel.....;-)

That reminds me of my doc who told me that I am "too young" to be in so much pain. How old are you suppose to be (or how "bad" do you have to look)before you have legitimate pain???

That just drives me crazy and that's not a far drive...
For any doctor to insinuate that because you "look" good or are young you shouldn't be in pain is ridiculous. Thank God for OP's!!!

AMEN Legit!! I must add one thing about my doc...one time I asked him about something I had read about pregnancy risks and he actually said "you need to stop reading"!! When I actually type these things, it makes me think that maybe I should change doctors!

Might be the thing to do. Reading keeps us all informed. Doctors don't like US to be more informed than they are I think. My doctor told me to stay off the Internet!

If my doc did that I would hand him a slip of paper and tell him to study it carefully. It would be his "walking papers".

Amen, Legit....and it seems there is no catching a break. If I look good -- ya know, makeup, hair halfway decent -- the doc thinks I certainly can't be in pain. But, if I were to go in there sans cosmetics, in a t-shirt and ripped jeams, I suspect he would think I am a junkie. All because I hurt my back and neck in a car accident years ago. *sigh*....
Thank heavens for OPs, yeah....sadly, they are coming under more and more scrutiny, and I fear it will get to the point that most won't want to bother.
Rant over.....

Luthien, I've been thinking about this. I think one gets better response when you go in looking decent--I know, not ready for a flight to Vegas with the girls!
I think when one does look a little put together, there is a little less tendency to get defensive or weepy--you know you're trying and and you're showing it!!
I think when I've looked exactly how I felt, it's always worked against me. (Wow! What does that say?) So I try to go in with book or something so I don't get fidgety. I try to look groomed and composed. I try to remember that doesn't make me an injury-free gymnast. I still have the right to be an attractive woman.
If someone tells you you look good, just say "Thank you." calmly and leave it at that. Sure, they may be leaving you an opening to get flustered and explain that just because you look ok doesn't mean you don't hurt, or that you don't look like this everyday. But you don't have to take that opening.
The sooner the people who deal with you in this context realize that you perceive your pain separately from other parts of your life, I think the easier you will have it. I hope so.
That being said, there are times when it is all I can do to get to the doctor's office....pale and chapped all over...so you see, I don't even listen to myself

You know, I will be joining and paying my dues here soon; cause I know I've postin' a lot.
I hope the above message doesn't come across like I am all-knowing about what to do and advice-ful. Although I just LOVE to let people know what works for me...sorry!
I just had to post my opinion about the doctor visit because it is based on experience both ways;
war paint v.s. wan
I look around a lot while I'm waiting in that office. I think that Luthien makes an excellent point:
the more cat-dragged-in you look, the less respect you get.

Some doctors forget they are not God and want their patients to be unknowing and uninformed. They get all p.o'ed when we actually may be correct in helping to diagnose or treat ourselves.
Drives me nutz to listen to my mother in law after she has had a doctor visit.
Me: "What did the doctor say?"
Her: "Oh, he talked medical talk, I don't know....I have to take these pills"
Me: "What are they for? What's the name of them?"
Her: "I have no idea, I just take them 3x a day"
She actually thought when he told her to have a bone scan done that they were going to cut a piece of her bone out! So, she didn't schedule the procedure.
I have since started going to her appointments with her and have the doctor speak laymans terms to her and make her ask questions.
I'm sorry...it's just a peeve of mine.
My last doctor actually yelled at me when I mentioned some thing to him about treatments I had read about. He told me I read too much, too.
Needless to say, he wasn't my doctor after that.
He was also the one that if I had to go get an injection for my migraine, he would come in the room talking OH SO LOUD...(now, would you make that shot a DOUBLE??)
I agree about presenting yourself in a neat manner at the doctors office. I do think you get a bit more respect.Even when I feel like Best if kept off the board and hurt...I may not wear makeup, but at least I put on 1/2 way decent clothes and brush my hair, even if I didn't want to. My doctor and I are good friends and he knows anyway if I don't feel good.
Even on the days I'm not 100% when I take littlest kidlet for her allergy injection, he will ask what's wrong.
I notice on this forum (both free and VIP) most everyone is very educated on their condition and meds. I would want any one of you to be with me if I was ever in need of a 'friend' at the hospital. Thanks to everyone for your information you share!!

Act like you are in pain and it may be construed as a "learned" behavior. Act like you are not in pain...and you risk not being taken seriously. Either way it is the docs discretion.
Read the fine print. Know the state laws on monitoring.
Discretion serves you as well it serves the docs imo.

Something to think about: Our regular pharmacies have a record of our prescriptions (either insurance claims or not) and the DEA is AWARE of who gets what controlled drug.
What about the OP pharmacies? Are they immune to keeping records and/or being monitored by the DEA?
Just curious...

Depends...monitoring is left up to the states. The DEA can get involved if asked...as in POL. Scheduled ll meds are watched closely.
I think it is a state issue.
And yes, using insurance...leaves quite the detailed trail.
