I read a post a while back about someone using a pre-paid credit card. This is intriguing to me but I know nothing about it - like where do you purchase them?
Any info would be appreciated.

I remember reading the same posts a while back and am also curious....there were also a few posts about how certain credit cards issue one-time-use cc#s to help prevent online fraud...I know one of the companies is Discover....the other 2 elude me at the moment. Legitimate, is that what you're referring to or are you referring to actual cards that are like phone cards that you can 'charge up' with funds? Either way, anyone with further knowledge please feel free to post

Check out www.wiredplastic.com . It is a mastercard that is pre-paid. You can ad funds to it via Western Union and various other ways. I haven't tried it, but it is becoming a popular alternative to regular credit. There are other alternatives. Just type in pre-paid credit cards in any search engine and some will come up.
Good Luck

Here is a link for one. I gave a link several months ago to someone else, but can't find it now.

legitimate. CHEXCARD has one , and you can deposit funds at money gram agents.--usually party stores , it is like western union only called money gram.Cash money sent thru money gram is usually available a few hours later. And they have direct deposit , you can have payroll, pension whatever directly deposited if you want.It has mastercard logo on it. I like it because it's not going into debt and using money that you can't afford to pay back. Customer service # 888-416-3629 they have a website with some info , but still under construction www.chexcard.com

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have checked out a couple of sites but stopped when one asked me for my social security number and driver's license number. Yikes! That always makes me nervous but I need to get this done. Going to check out Chexcard now - Midnight - have you used them before?
Thanks!

I've used a pre-paid Mastercard issued through RiteAid pharmacies in the regions that have RiteAid and through other stores whose names I don't recognize in other parts of the country. The fee is $9.95 for the initial load of the card (minimum $20, maximum $500 - you can "upgrade" to $2500 for an extra fee)...each subsequent load on the card is a $4.95 fee. There is a $4.95 monthly maintenance fee but if you drain the card of funds before that date, the issuer just eats the fee. The info website is mymccard.com.

Thanks Diana, I'll check this link out as well. It's looking like these fees are typical with all of these cards, no matter who you use.

I use a prepaid card from Chase/Manhatten bank. I got a real good inroductory offer with no annual fee, no start- up fee, and real low interest, which I never pay anyways since I pay the balance in full every month. It's about the only kind of card you can get with poor or non-existant credit history. By having one, though, you can reestablish your credit rating especially if you pay it in full every month.
