Hey, I wasn't here last week and I came in today and there's all these ratings! I know how to rate a thread; did that already. But, where do the ratings (# of stars) under the users name come from? This is so neat, but I'm just a little confused (ok, it doesn't take much to confuse me; lol!)

I've noticed the stars (ratings) but really have not paid them much attention, until you mentioned it.
Interesting though. Can we make a wish?

These ratings are a mixed blessing - They can tell you who is agood reliable source of info - but they can be abused - if you don't like a person you can go and rate them a one - it's not advised but people do it - Best thing is to look at peoples posts take 30 or so in different threads and you will build up a picture pretty soon. Some guys who have one star are great - they get rated low beacuse they might be considered controversial or break the rules now and then - that doesn't mean they have good info and posts!

I think the ratings thing isn't the most reliable method to form a first opinion on someone's overall character. I know everyone thinks their rating should be 5 stars, but that isn't usually the case. For example I am rated a 3, do I think I'm a 3 out of 5? Of course not! =) .. But obviously some do hehe.
I'd say take it with a grain of salt.

I think the ratings are a joke. I have 2 stars. You know why, not because I don't provide intelligent, informed opinions. It is BECAUSE I provide opinions, and am not afraid to engage in vigorous debate that I "ruffle some people's feathers." The only people who bother to rate people, in my experience, are the ones who are pissed at you so they give you a 1 star rating. If you go by who has the most stars in order to determine who to listen to, you will be sadly misinformed. But hey, this post will probably piss someone else off, resulting in me going to 1 star. Oh well.

If you hold your cursor over the stars in yours & anyone else's profile, you can see how many times they've been rated. Thats why alot of strangers with no posts have 5 stars - due to 1 5 star rating.

Its averaged...I just checked & I had rated you 4 awhile back...I know for sure there are people that rate me low, but only because I have (in their opinion) the gall (was trying to think of a polite word lol) to disagree with them or nicely suggest a more appropriate forum for their post so the mod didn't have to delete it. I've been rated 35 times.

Sorry, DB - I tried.
I just rated you a 5 and nothing changed. So frustrating.
Oh well, it's better than rating someone higher, and the stars actually go down! That's happened a couple of times and really made me feel badly.

Just fill in more blanks on your home page. Maybe your first name/occupation/hobby, etc. The more data you fill in, the more your profile status will increase.

The bar shows the completeness of your profile.
Here are the fields it uses to judge how complete it is:
- Email
- Name
- Occupation
- Hobbies
- Location
- Bio
- Picture
- Visible in Who's Online
This way, you will know before you click on a name how complete a user's profile is.
