I would think since it is on the truck you will get it by 7. The latest I have ever had a delivery from UPS was around 6pm.

Latest for me was 6:30pm. Hang in there.
There is a very strong possibility that you will get it tonight.

well just got off the phone with ups and they said the site went off of the time they received billing info instead of time they picked up pack and that it will be here tomorro.
ups sucks. that is why ive learned to have a few days of meds on hand. it would have really sucked if i was out and waiting on them!
well have a good night all

I've always thought UPS was more concerned with the big customers who do lots of shipping, and not so concerned with keeping the little guy waiting for the package happy. UPS just sort of shows up when it shows up.
I've had similar problems with Airborne failing to deliver overnight packages on time, (although since they have merged with DHL it seems like they're trying harder).
On the other hand I've had 20 years of GREAT service from Fedex, both as a shipping customer for my small business and also on the receiving end. They're the best in my book.

UPS is the pits. I only have one complaint about fedex, when you call with a tracking number they wont hold at a hub until a delivery request.
However sometimes you can keep calling until you get someone who says okay.
I am never home for my packages so it makes for sense just for them to hold at hub.

My UPS is always late. I usually get deliveries after 6:00PM. During the Holiday season it was usually after 7:00PM. I am not a UPS fan. I agree with potatoboy, FedEX is the best.

The ups hub in my area closes at 7 p.m. for customers. I called UPS customer service one time to ask if they had an estimate at what time my package would arrive. I was told by the end of the "business day" at the latest. I had tracked my package and it was "on truck for delivery" at 7:30 a.m. Being that a typical work day is 8 hours I told the customer service rep that the driver should be at my house no later than 3:30 roughly, because that would be an 8 hour work day. She told me that wasn't the case. She said ups drivers have to attempt to deliver all the packages on there truck no matter how long it takes. The latest I've ever had a delivery was 7 p.m. I definitely have my gripes with ups but there drivers bust their butts. Still give me Fed Ex anyday.

Shortly after I moved s couple of years ago, I actually twice called and asked for Fedex to re-route a package that was being sent to me at my old address (in the same city), and was already on the truck for delivery. Somehow the dispatcher got the right address to the driver and the packages were delivered the same day. That little performance really impressed me, I can't even imagine asking a UPS dispatcher to do that.

If you have a regular driver you should get to know him or her, and clue them in to your at-home schedule. They don't want to waste time attempting if you're not home. Although I've heard there is a policy that one delivery attempt has to made before they'll hold at the hub.
On Fedex domestic airbills (the kind you fill out, not the computer generated ones) they have written in tiny letters under one of the address lines "to HOLD at Fedex location print Fedex address". I believe you could probably just have your packages addressed to you at the Fedex hub or storefront, and pick them up when it suits you. Anyone do this on a regular basis?
Also, does anyone know if UPS stores (formerly Mailboxes etc in my city) will accept UPS packages for pick up, if you are not actually renting a box from them? That could be another option if you aren't home when the truck comes, (although somehow I don't think it works that way with UPS).

potatoboy99:
Thats a good question. I highly doubt it though. Even if you rent a box from them, most places wont ship to a PO Box.
I doubt it because I dont think they have the handheld scanners drivers and the hubs have.
------
Yes I know the shipper can request it be held at hub, but getting them to actually make that little check box rarely happens.
-------
Like if you want it held at hub before delivery attempt you just have to keep calling back somtimes. Only once I gave up and went ahead with the first delivery attempt.
Normally I just tell a story which is true that I know for a fact that I wont be home for the first delivery attempt so its a waste of a drive for a driver to come to my house.
Then I continue that the fedex hub is out of my way unless I am on my way home from work so it would be easier for me to just grab it on my way home isntead of drivinng home only to find a doof tag showing I missed the driver by 5 minutes and that I will have to wait till 6:30pk when he retuns to the hub.
Fedex much better then UPS still.
Even though it was fedex that questioned what I had in my package once, not UPS. Talk about an akward moment.

I have received as late as 8pm from UPS and on the other hand my Fedex driver apoligizes to me for arriving as late as 1:30pm for a standard overnight but 9 times out of 10 he will deliver before 10:30 no matter what the service he is awesome, I take care of him tip wise very well for his service.

When you rent a box from the UPS store and Mr.Mail and places like that, and you have box #555, you can give your address as:
123 Fourth street
#555
Anytown USA
which gets around the No P.O. Boxes delivery limitations. You used to be able to list the address as "Suite 555" or "Apartment 555" but that's been outlawed due to all the fraudulent activity it encouraged.
Now you can't pretend it's anything. But you have a street address and that's all you need for UPS or Fedex delivery.
And of course when you rent a PO Box at the Post Office it's just a box and a zip code, no street address.
Actually that reminds me, the dread Airborne used to drop-ship large packages coming to me AT THE POST OFFICE and let the mailman deliver them! They had some kind of arrangement with the Postal Service. What a ridiculous situation that was. Usually I wasn't home for delivery, and so I ended up going to the Post Office to pick up my Courier Packages!. One more reason I used to avoid Airborne like the plague.

Maybe I'm just a unique case, but I've had good luck with both FedEx and UPS. I've never had either one be late or lose a package. I live in a very small town, though, so maybe that has something to do with it.
Also, I never thought of tipping my drivers - that's a good idea bogside.

One reason I've found it difficult to use the Fedex hub/location address for purchases, is that it seems to often be a problem for many online merchants when the shipping address does not match the billing address. I frequently have to explain myself to CS when my merchandise is being sent to my apartment, but the CC bills to my business, for instance.
I have several times had documents etc sent to a nearby location address though, when I couldn't be available for delivery. The city where I live has a Fedex storefront on practically every block, it seems. And now Fedex owns Kinkos. Does that make every Kinkos an actual Fedex location? If it does then now we have TWO Fedex spots per block!
Wait'll they merge with Starbucks, then we'll have all bases covered!

I always use the hub addy for both Fedex and UPS. you use it as your shipping addy when setting up accts. This way it is always ready 1st thing in am and if you pick 2 day shipping it is typically there in 1 day--no hanging out all day-- my fedex opens at 8:30 ups at 9:30

Yes, I believe Kinkos is an actual FedEx location, and packages can be held there for pick up. When I did a search on FedExs web site for the closest hub, it came back with a Kinkos address. Where I live, there is a Kinkos and a UPS store on every corner. Well, not literally, but there is an abundance of both. FedEx also makes it clear on their web site that having packages held at a local hub for pick up is a convenience they are happy to offer.
I have never used a hub to hold packages for either UPS or FedEx, but I am seriously thinking about this option. It didnt occur to me that the billing address on the credit card must match the delivery address. This is a dilemma since many shippers require the mailing address match the credit card address.
I definitely think Star Bucks is a great idea for a FedEx or UPS location. Star bucks or Borders would make great shipping hubs.

ok to answer some of the questions..first of all.."Does the UPS store(mailboxes inc) accept packages if you dont have a box or account with them? YES..they do and they charge a $5 fee. They will also accept COD if you take them the money order the night before or early that morning.I have done this several times with UPS.
Yes you can have a pkg held at the Fedex hub before a delivery attempt is made,..IF you put your shipping address as the address of the hub..most order forms have Address line #1 and Line #2..on line 2 you put ***HOLD FOR CUSTOMER PICKUP***I have also done this lots of times wihout any problems..and my shipping and billing info is different.sometimes with NROPS it wont let you change the shipping address so you have to REGISTER with the hubs address...its a headache filling it out,but worth it...
