Hi all,
I read a few times people actually suggesting for others to go to a clinic to get methadone for Pain management. Has anyone ever actually done that?

Typically, methadone for long term pain management is prescribed by a pain management doctor/ clinic. Methadone is extremely effective for many people for pain relief. It worked quite well for me.

Do you mean they should go to a clinic and pretend they need methadone for addiction in order to get it for pain relief? Not sure what you meant. I know doctors do prescribe it for cp. I'd rather have my doctor prescribe it than go to a clinic.
I just wasn't sure what you meant.

I know several people who are prescribed methadone for pain, and they say it is extremely effective!! 3 of them get a script from doctor, and it is special ordered from a pharmacy... But there is one person I know that is on medicaid, who goes to a clinic, regular methadone clinic - I have to guess it's cuz no ins to cover it, that he has to go tha clinic w/the others gettin it in that same manner, it doesn't really matter to him, he's just so thrilled to have relief, he doesn't care where it comes from. And, I would imagine most peeps in SEVERE pain would feel the same way.... Who cares, as long as u have relief... right?? Maybe some uptight peeps would be creeped out, then too bad for them.... I'd take it anyway i could get it... Peeps in glass houses can't realisitically throw rocks....
Best thoughts to all,

That is interesting cause my doctor has been trying to get me to try methadone. He says it is great for chronic pain and nerve pain. I just hate the stigma attatched to it. I am almost ready to say yes though as nothing else seems to help.
Thanks for sharing your information.

I have no information about it except its traditional (old) use was for heroin addicts to get off H. If you do this you will be under a doctor's care. I would do it if the pain was that bad.

The only problem with going to a methadone clinic under false pretenses (for pain and not addiction), is they usually test you for opiates. So if you went in saying you were a Hydro addict, you better have Hydro in your system, or they will not give it to you (or whatever you're saying you're there for).
Good luck though

There IS a Stigma attached to it, and that is, in my opinion, the worst part of Methadone. It's original purpose was NOT Heroin Addiction, it WAS pain management (invented in Germany I think. I'll find out if anyone is actually interested .... lol) Then through the years it was found as a good way to detox people from heroin (which was also a pain med at one time). Up until the mid to late '90s many many doctors thought that they could not even prescribe it! Now fortunately there are a few more enlightened pain management doctors around.
Doglover, if nothing else works, maybe this will.
I believe the More 'Regular' people that health professionals and others see on a Methadone pain management program, the less chance the stigma has.
Methadone is one of the cheapest Long Acting Narcotic Pain relievers, I know that Medical (which is the same as Medicaid I think) covers it.
Take Care All & I hope everyone had as pain free Thanksgiving as possible!
