I'm tired of these addiction stories
      #190888 - 10/04/04 10:00 PM

I wonder how many are real and how many people appear in papers or on TV and repent for maybe in exchange for a lighter sentence when they got caught forging perscriptions.

And where are the parents when you read about some teen overdosing on hydro he got off the internet.

I would like people take responsibility for what happens and quit blaming the doctors.

I rarely hear about how pain killers have given millions back their lives because those people take their medications with responsibility. At most, some reporter will say that for some, these help people lead a normal life and then spen the next half hour decrying the horrors of pain meds and the ease they can be gotten.

Funny, I never found them easy to get.

Anyone that keeps up with the war on drugs knows why the FEDS are after doctors. They are easy, high profile targets that DON"T SHOOT BACK.

I agree. I just read another article on Ryan Height in the Oct. issue of Readers Digest. This is a very tragic story, however I don't believe anywhere in the article they mentioned how he was taking a lethal cocktail of hydrocodone and other drugs.(I can't remember exactly what they were and that just proves how we are not informed of the whole story.) I don't mean to attack him, just using this story as a reference. His parents started a war against the op's from where he obtained the hydro, but nobody cares about where he got the other drugs. I thought I remember him also having morphine in his system, and maybe alchol or some benzo's but again I can't remember.

NOBODY takes resoponibility for mistakes. It is always someone elses fault. It's Mc Donalds fault we are all overweight, It's the tobacco companies fault we have cancer from smoking, and so on.

The media only reports on the negative, that is a fact we all have to accept. Ok I am starting to slur my speech, time for bed. pete.

You know something? You’re right!!! We sue McDonalds for being fat and the tobacco industry because we choose to smoke. I think in the sense of fairness to all, EVERYONE should be sued for the things we do. We could revolutionize the health care system. We can still pay outrageous health insurance premiums, but the insurance companies won’t have to pay out any claims (which will make them even fatter and happier). We could all become “politically healthy.”

For example, I happen to enjoy butter, milk and cheese. Almost ten years ago, I had to have my gallbladder removed, and, in my PHI (political health ignorance), I fully expected my health insurance company to pay the bill (which those silly people did). Now I realize that that evil dairy industry was really responsible.

I also enjoy red meat occasionally. I guess the beef industry needs to cough up some bread for my high cholesterol level. The teeth aren’t in very good shape, either, with all that decay from sugar. I need to raise some cane with that industry. In an effort to cut my sugar intake, I did try that NutraSweet stuff, but it gave me headaches. All things being Equal, they should buy me a case of Excedrin. Of course, if all that Excedrin causes an ulcer, they can expect a bill for my Tagamet and Prilosec.

Now, alcohol is a different story. I’m unclear who should be responsible if my liver dies. It’s either the maker of the alcohol, the state which licenses its consumption or the establishment which serves me. We’ll have to divide that bill by three.

I also may not exercise as often as I should. After all, my couch is so comfortable, I just can’t seem to leave it. If I’m a couch potato, who’s responsible: the potato industry or the manufacturer of the couch? I can probably found out who made the couch because somewhere in there is that tag that I’m prohibited by federal law from removing.

To be honest, all this “political health” rhetoric is making me a little sick to my stomach. Who’s going to pay for my Pepto-Bismol??????
