Old docs or newer docs-which is better?
      #193139 - 10/12/04 12:11 PM

Do you think the older, near retirement age doctors are better or worse than a younger doctor that has a few years of experience under their belt?

The newer docs have more up to-date training. But they seem more business oriented.

The older doctors that are unfortunately retiring who started practicing in the 1950's, 60's, 70's or maybe the 80's seem to consider medicine more a claaing.

They also seem less inclined to send you for expensive tests. And they sem more sympathetic to pain issues.

The younger ones seem to concerned of putting their license at risk than helping people in pain.

a young psychiatrist who got his licence less than 5 years ago gave me off lable tramadol but no more than 30 pills a month. probably only one in a hundred psychiatrists would use off lable tramadol

not certain about age4 at all, but i would probably prefer a male doctor over a female. im male and 24 years old

I agree with you Kimbell,

Older ones have more experiance and they were around before all of this drug crackdown sh** so they're more used to prescribing medications than these new doctors that were taught all through school that pain meds are EVIL.

My pmd's are middle 40's, up to date on procedures, and compassionate. How do you know?

They also don't send me out for expensive procedures, don't make me have procedures or tests I don't want.

Hmm, hard call.

Depends on the area. I'm in the PNW.

I have a very young doctor who is absolutely wonderful. He spends a lot of time with me at each of my visits. I took all of my medical records to him on my first visit and he wrote me a script for the Duragesic patch as soon as I told him that was what I wanted. I don't even have to have an office visit when I need a new script written each month. I just call his nurse ahead of time and they will have it waiting at the front desk for me to pick up by the same afternoon. He says he only needs to see me once every 4 to 6 months now. He is the greatest!!!!
