Hi Everyone,
O posted some days ago about kadian that I was on not working for me anymore. I explained how bad my injury was and how I would go about asking for another medication.
I went into how my PM Dr wanted me to try the patch but, even with my prescription coverage, it was too much.
So, I indeed went to the PM Dr on my usual time and told him about the patch being too expensive. When I asked if there was some sort of slow release for of percocet he told me "No" Which was a surprised cause we all know there is called oxycontin. My guess is he did not want me on that.
So, he switched me from the 100 mg kadian twice a day I was on to Methadone 3 times a day. Mg....I forget, I have to look at the bottle.
I have to tell you, the methadone works wonders. it really does help with the pain and has given me quality of life again. I only take 2 a day instead of the 3 prescribed for now.
I have read people's stories of weight gain, sweats, no energy etc etc. I have been on it a week now and I don't sweat at all, I always watched how much I eat to begin with that's not a problem, and I have energy to do whatever I want.
I know the W/ds are a nitemare unless you ween. I have been through hydro w/d's and know how they are a nitemare. So, when those times did happen, I would take CVS brand anti-diar. (lopradomine) whatever you call it. I would take about 15 of them, also I would take some sort of stuff to make you go to the bathroom. I would suffer no w/ds and no problems going to the bathroom. I would stay on it a few days then be able to go through no W/D's after even stopping the anti-diar.
So, in a nutshell I think if I am careful with the Methadone, I am careful with sugar cravings, and everything else I have been reading I should be ok. But for me, this medication has worked the best for me thus far. Which is great cause I have so many problems with my back it's mind boggling.
Ok, thanks for everyone's suggestions on my previous post.

vast, I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I'm suspicious that it's the Drs. office (if you're an HMO) that doesn't carry the oxycontin. My Drs. office doesn't either- they offer methadone rather than- it's my understanding it's one or the other (my HMO also doesn't carry anything stronger than 5/500 hydro. and 5/325 oxycodone unless it's straight oxycodone- weird. But that's that. Again, not sure if there's any truth to that, but it's been the impression I've gotten from my doc.

Hey Grey,
I don't think I follow. My Dr doesn't carry any narcotics at all. They write a prescription for whatever is given. any Dr that has em in the office and hands em out, I would be suspect of too.
Aside from that, this Dr prescribes both Oxycon and Metha. He just prefers me on Metha....

Sorry- no, the Doc. doesn't just hand them out in his office, lol, but I guess unless you use the same insurance company I do, you prolly wouldn't know what I'm talking about. Sorry for the confusion What I meant was, because I'm through an HMO who happens to have their pharmacies (I go through their pharmacies as well) inside of their clinics and hospitals- my HMO doesn't offer oxycontin- merely methadone. That's what I meant- wasn't sure if you had the same sort of set-up or not. The pharm. is separate, but it is within the same building as the Drs. offices- that's all. Oh, they also manufacture their own product (generics) so maybe that makes more sense?
Weird that your doc would offer only one to you and not the other. From what I've heard, methadone is more difficult to try and get over than oxy- but I haven't tried either- so again, just speculation- wouldn't take it to the bank
Take care.
