to refill or not to refill - that is my question
      #183797 - 08/29/04 07:57 PM

ok, so as some of you may have seen, i was in a nasty car accident over the weekend and although i am not broken or bleeding (thank god!) i am in considerable pain. i had a back condition in the first place, and this obviously aggravated it to no end and now im not sure what to do. i do have a refill available soon but i had hoped to be done with the whole hydro thing with my last refill. besides, the pain relief is needed now, not in 2-4 days when my order would come through. i would be laughed out of an er or doc's office and now im not sure what to do. should i order? im sure some of you know the "urgency of pain" and i guess i dont really have any other options other than to wait to get the fill, or wait til the pain goes away. what would you all do? any advice, help would be appreciated. thanks!

You shouldn't have to be in pain. Was there a police report for your accident? If so and you are in pain I would definitely go to the er. A lot of times after car accidents you don't feel pain untill the next day. If your accident was on Friday you were in pain on Sat. thought you could brave it out but the pain hasn't subsided. That's what you tell the er doctor, which is the truth. The police report proves you were in an auto accident. Good luck and hope you're pain free soon!

I waited a day after a MVA a long time ago, and thats what is causing me all the trouble now. I could walk the day of the accident, but the after day after I couldn't walk upright.

Get yourself to the doctor, right now!!!
oh and if they don't help, refill...

but see i feel that i'd be looked at like a crazy person for even sitting in the waiting room. if i drive myself down, how does that look? and no one i know would agree to drive me down on the soul grounds that im walking/talking and not broken. ha. but do you know what i mean? its easy enough for me to think about going down, but unfortunately, i've been in the er for non-descript pain before (although VERY legitimate) and i can't stand the looks on the faces of the nurses and docs when you tell them why you are there. makes me feel like 1" tall. im sure many can relate.....

thank you for your post though, i was beginning to feel like no one was out there to listen!

Hey if your in pain who cares what some er nurse thinks? There was a guy on the news who was shot 4 times and he drove himself to the er. Dead serious. (no pun intended) My cousin dislocated his shoulder and drove himself to the er in a car with a stick shift! OUCH!! He said it was excruciating but he did it. Go to the er. Worse case scenario you get prescribed 800mg ibuprofrin.

thats amazing! im blessed that its not as serious, and maybe thats what is keeing me from going. i dont want to take the spot of someone truely in an emergency. i wish the pain would go away obviously, but the humiliation in the ER i think would be worse. sometimes i can't get over how bad ER docs/nurses can make you feel. can i get an AMEN?

If you are in pain following a MVA, you should be seen by someone. Whether it is an ER or a walk-in clinic, you should not avoid seeking treatment because of what you assume the ER staff may think. You are either injured or you are not. Diagnostic tests will be run and you will leave (hopefully) knowing what is the cause of the pain and a treatment plan to alleviate some or all of the pain. Don;t go in with the attitude that you will be labeled a "seeker". Some of my best friends are ER nurses (I am an OR nurse) and yes, they can be a bit callous, but rest assured if you are in legitimate need of pain meds, you'll get something more often than not. I know many have had unsatisfactory experiences in the ER, but for you to sacrifice your future health is not a wise decision IMO.

Hoping you get the care you need!

I think that you should refill. You should always have a little emergency medicine in the house in case something like this happens! It's like an insurance policy because when the horrible toothache happens, it is always on a weekend and if you call the dentist, he'll act like you are a drug seeker and make you feel bad.

I'm sorry that you are feeling so poorly. I would definitely go to the ER and explain what happened or if you have a regular doctor (if he is a nice doctor), call him and ask him if he could prescribe a few days worth of pain meds until you can get in to see him. And definitely get your refill.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, and hope you feel better and pain free soon.
