I have had panic/anxiety attacks for a while. Now, my newest troubling symptom is difficulty swallowing. Both liquids and solids. I had this problem about 13 years ago, and had all kinds of medical tests and it was found to be anxiety related. Has anyone else experienced this? My doctor will not prescribe me Xanax which helped me immensely before. Does anyone know of a good legitimate U.S. site that does consultations for Xanax? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks for your response. My problem now is that instead of having initermittent panic attacks, I am suffering instead with this constant problem of swallowing. It does not come and go; it is very constant.

This does not only occur wuth panic attacks? If so I would recommend seeing a Dr again, thats what they get paid for "helping people", I know by saying that will start a whole new discussion

Panic attacks can vary in degree from minor to severe. They can be quite terrifying. If your M.D. won't prescribe xanax to you for panic attacks than he's not helping you. Find another M.D. that will treat your anxiety appropriately.

I have had the swallowing problem, and the only advice I can give is that hot liquids helped a little until I could swallow again.
But, if this is becoming a constant thing for you, I'd have to agree with the other poster, see the doctor again.

Maybe you have 'GLOBUS' a nervous physical condition that affects the throat, Considering when you took xanax it went away?,it not dangerous or anything ,so try not to worry, just a pain, maybe do a search on google?about 'Globus', it might explain your symptoms?
Thats what I had when i had difficulty with my throat which felt like there was something stuck in it all the time, benzos cured it.It's not a problem now even when i go wthout them for a couple of weeks.Sorry can't help with an op i go for iop's.
Best Regards
Matt.

I am soooo sorry that you are experienceing this, before I went on anti anxiety meds, I suffered terribly with my throat closing.
Get your medical records together, staing that your a CPS and anxiety sufferer, than research the board, the best advice I can offer to find a good reputable op is to read, read, read, than you're able to make your own educated assesment off who you'd like to go with.
I use NWW and they have never done wrong by me(please no one respond with any negative cheerleading responses). But what works for me may not be what your interested in. So again, take an hour or to and research and you'll find the answers to your needs there-
Good luck-

Kelly,
I have anxiety & panic disorder, too, and while I don't have problems swallowing, I have experienced the sensation that my throat was closing up and I couldn't breathe and my mouth would get really dry. This was accompanied with the hyperventilation symptoms though. I would definitely do some research about that, I'm sure someone else somewhere has had similar symptoms, as we all have don't have the same exact reactions during an attack.
I did a search on Google about it and found this site: Anxiety Symptoms and it mentions difficulty swallowing as one of the symptoms.
Check it out and see if maybe there is some kind of info on there that may be able to help you. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Another good records Op is Youronlinedoctor. They have good prices, offer 3 refills, 120 count of medication and a choice of 3 different pharmacies. Even the doctors are friendly.
I have read here that they don't like to prescribe benzos to people who get pain medication from them, but since it sounds like you don't, you might give them a try.

i have a question, if social anxiety is supposedly the most common anxiety people suffer from, then how come no one ever talks about it. how come everyone is panic and general?? maybe the social anxiety peeps are too shy to mention it?
xanax doesnt work for social anxiety, but its best for panic. KarmaKelly if you really need it then you need it, but id say try to use it as least as posssible only for panic. there are also IOPs that can get you xanax with out a script. try the "WHo has it, how much" forum

Social anxiety plays a huge role in the greater scheme of my anxiety disorder. I guess it's just easier to say "anxiety disorder" and I feel less of a sense of shame than saying I may be experiencing social anxiety because it doesn't mean I don't want to be around people, but that sometimes my fear of being evaluated, judged and considered unacceptable (all stemming from my childhood, like most conditions), which are warranted by nothing that has actually occurred in my adult life, and most people wouldn't believe I suffer from it, this can keep me from discussing particular details of my anxiety.
In my early years of university, social anxiety led me to drink heavily, which is quite common, although not so common to be so anxious doing group presentations that I felt I had to take a couple of shots of vodka in order to meet with my group partners.
Fortunately, I lacked an affinity for alochol, and I realized after a short time that it was causing me more problems, so it was thankfully a short phase.
Now I never drink alcohol because I take benzodiazepines, and before benzos I rarely drank because I just don't like the taste of alcohol very much.
I wonder if there is a benzo, a benzo/combination or some other medication that is effective for social anxiety in particular? From the limited research I've done on the internet, there really isn't any effective treatment, beyond what's prescribed for other anxiety disorders, except for some positive things I've read about parnate and another MAOI rarely used, and I can't remember it's name.
Clonzaepam has worked for my anxiety in its most general sense. It decreases my anxiety enough so I can think rationally and work out my issues, change my patterns of thinking, etc., which I find impossible to do when I'm in the throes of major anxiety.
So it also allows me to deal more effectively with my social anxiety. In that senese, it helps overall, so I can interact with people, have friendships, and relationships, although it's something I have to work at extra hard. I have to fight against an instinct to isolate myself because I was accustomed to doing that when I was overcome with anxiety. It was the only way to feel safe. Other people were too scary.
So I'm grateful to benzodiazepines for allowing me a life which would otherwise likely be very limited and frustrating since I have a strong desire to be involved with others and to contribute to society, and yet the anxiety would manage to get the best of me.
Now if I could figure out how to treat the depression, all would be well. One of the side effects for benzos for me is depression, although not nearly as bad as when I was a virtual prisoner due to my anxiety. That would eventually push me into a terrible depression. But the benzos depress my CNS, and I think taking benzos as my only medication, I'm bound to get depressed. I vaguely remember reading that benzos depress your level of endorphins, and levels of serotonin, etc., so if that's true, I'm not surprised I face depression as a consequence of benzo use. I'm willing to pay the price, though, because the alternative is far, far worse.
But I have been compelled to experiment with stimulants, such as ephedrine (which I know many people will call me crazy for trying, and maybe they're right) and researching various stimulants.
But from what I gather, mixing CNS depressants with CNS stimulants will only confuse my nervous system and will probably seriously mess me up in the end.
So I'm back to just benzos, and I hate to even consider any type of AD because of mostly horrible experiences with them, but I wonder if a stimulant AD such as Wellbutrin might be a "safer" way to relieve some of the depression.
Or something that would help raise my serotonin levels with minimal harm.
It's an ongoing research/experiment project. I wonder if God will give me a passing grade the due date is up?
